mk7 2.2 rwd injector nightmare

Hi Everyone,

Picked up a 2.2 mk7 rwd during the week for a steal. Non runner, dosent start. Turns over but labours. According to seller says it was driving fine then got a little bit smokey and then cut out and wouldnt start. He said there was oil underneath. I picked iy up oil was fine. Found t the top of the rocker cover soaking wet, took the intake pipe off turbo is ok. Signs of age but nothing mental. Went to undo the injectors to have a look under the rocker cover. 1 and 2 were as expected, the second injector clamp bolt was finger tight. In jector 3 came out fine. Injector 4 is stuck. It will move up about 6mm freely but tightens again. Tried the usual rocking it working back and forth to no avail. So frustrating as its the only thing stopping me from sorting the engine ( or at least know I need to pull the engine out of the van) any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated.

Im hoping to get it on the road ASAP. Going to do a camper/workvan conversion.

Just constant working up and down twining and a bit of brute force.

I wouldn't be against destroying the rocker cover to get access directly into the injector so you can try flushing with brake clean, compressed air to get any oil from around the injector helping to keep excessive carbon build up jamming the injector.
Rocker covers about £50-60 last time I got one.

Some very light oil or plenty of brake clean flushing as you give it some fizik

Get all injectors tested before putting them back in. As no point putting knackered injectors back in and blowing a hole in a piston after going to the effort of getting them out.

Still no luck, tryed everything like you said. Rocker cover is smashed off. It rotates freely it might lift about 8mm and then it just tightens. When its sitting it spins fine once you try to pull it up it locks up. Makes me think that something has damged the tip of it and its catching the head. Getting pissed off with it now.

It'd be better to know which year it is and FWD or RWD.

Move 4 injector up till it gets a bit tight then turn it back and forth use a penetrating oil when the injector is down or pore deisel down there so as it is pulled up the injector tip is coated with lubricant.
Could take an hour to get it out.
Likely there is soot build up on the injector tip which'll come off as the injector is moved about.
Could be the tip is bent - the tip is hardened steel the head is soft aluminimum.

Injector tip may be swolen, possibly due to water in the fuel...this makes the spray tip larger in diameter than the hole in the head...essentially preventing it from being removed. There are injector removal tools which attach to the injector body and use a pneumatic piston to basically force it out....like a reverse jack hammer.

If it's moving up about 8mm then getting stuck it's either excessive carbon round the body tightening against any build-up in the injector bore.

Or as his lordship says the tip swelling may be a possibility but the top of the injector nozzle hole in the head must be closed in on itself to cause the restriction.
Which is possible if the injector's been hammering the seat at the bottom of the bore for a while.

If it's coming down to head off or engine out to get this injector removed.
I'd be going for engine out.
Though I know what equipment and facilities I have at my disposal.

You can give yourself more space by dropping the engine cradle a bit.

Ideally I dont want to take the engine out, I can do it and have the facility to do it if needs be. Im going to persevere once again, what injector removal tool would you guys recommend. If there is a preferred transit specific option for the 2.2 ill just buy that. Whats the best way of sharing a video with you so you can see my movement/ predicament i have. Im really keen to get it running so I can begin the conversion, thanks for all your help and input so far guys
