It’s the wiring on the pump on older models it was a single female spade terminal if it’s still got the anti thief device it has. anti-temper screws in a plate over stop solenoid valve I never had to remove or had problems with my mk 5 but as I understand it the multi wiring plug has all black wires in it and only one is the actual live feed to the pump how I’ve tested the old type is with the ignition on is pull the terminal off the solenoid you should hear it Click when you put it back on it should also work on the multi plug type by unplugging or just getting someone to turn the ignition on and off but make sure they don’t try to start it keep your fingers clear of anything moving.

Thank you. For some reason I never saw your response until today. I don't know if I should start a new thread about this problem because it's a new problem stemming from a head gasket change.... anyway, I'm very much hoping to solve this problem and I hope that you and other members of this group can help me. It seems like such a simple problem but it's a huge problem because I can't diagnose the cause, which is very frustrating.

I will try to find this wire you are talking about. I don't recall it, but I never touched the pump anywhere except to remove and then install the metal fuel lines from the pump to the injectors. I do remember there was an electrical connection to the thermostat housing, probably a temperature sensor. Otherwise I don't recall anything electrical I was working on.

I need to know where to start trouble-shooting. How far back do I go to see where the problem lies? Will I need to remover the cooling system again and fan and plastic engine cover for the timing belt? Can the timing be off? I don't know how, because I never removed the timing belt, and the engine was locked down in 3 different positions, so I am clueless as to how the timing could be off in the first place. When adjusting the valves after putting everything together, of course I had to turn the bolt on the crankshaft to move the pistons around to get the valves in to the proper position, so I know all of that moves freely. Nothing is stuck or broken.

Yeah, start a new thread

It's getting lost in this one

Because i don't want to read all 8 pages of this one, to see how yours is related, only to find out the only common thing is: that it has a banana engine

all the best.mark
