Biggest wheels to fit a mk1, lift kit?

Postby Jay78 » Sun May 10, 2026 10:14 pm

Currently running on the original steelies but want something bigger, maybe just bigger AT tyres that fit without rubbing and won’t break the bank either. Any suggestions?

Also not likely but anyone used a lift kit if there is such a thing?

Cheers

Yeah looks to me that at least another 2 inches in diameter can be fitted, maybe Vitara type wheels

speedo error

ABS equipped cars, have the speedo reading from the ABS sensors - maybe you can correct it with forscan.

Non ABS .. it comes from a unit on the gearbox that is driven by little gears and think spins a magnet that is called a hall effect sensor from which the signal voltage is sent to the clocks .. that's all i know about this and it could be a problem to solve.

Lift kits - if available- maybe worth looking at focus 98 - 2004
.Front. the more you lift ..in its simplest form, usually spacers on top of the shocks , the more you articulate the bottom control arm other maybe bad results will happen ... so messing up the wheel camber so wearing out tyres.
Rear - think you extend the shackles.

The above simple mods will have it set up like a 1980's Cortina ... which was done for looks rather than handling and performance, when people had there heads in custom car magazines

been no talk here .. as long as ive been here in 3 or 4 years .. only talk is lowering

so suggest you look into focus info

Or these have same platform

1st Generation Ford Focus (1998~2004)
2nd Generation Ford Focus (2004~2011)
Ford Transit Connect (2002~2013)

all the best.mark
