Brake pipe rusted

Postby matts09transit » Tue May 12, 2026 7:53 am

Hi everyone.

I have a rusted brake pipe underneath the brake fluid reservoir on the left side when looking in with the bonnet open. It's the pipe that goes round the back of the engine block which seems like a real pain to replace. Has anyone done it or done something similar? As far as I can tell me options are:

1. Replace the whole pipe with an identical part
2. Replace the whole pipe with a homemade copper pipe and flaring kit
3. Cut the rusted section and join homemade copper pipe

Any considerations I need with the fluid when doing this?

At least with my Mk8, which is obviously newer, I don't think Ford even supply the original parts anymore. They all seem to be discontinued, and the Ford parts database seems to just provide generic pipe by the metre.

there are genuine ford brake pipes on ebay .. £30 - £50 or round abouts

me not knowing the mk7 cant pick one out for you because some of the descriptions are vague, some ford listings with no picture .. and no info from you if left hand drive or right hand (they are different)so its a case of you know what it looks like and looking at the pictures.

here's the parts diagram page

http://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l= ... A9PTIwNjA2

may help you out a bit , as putting the part number into ebay gets you the right one

if putting a piece in .. you need to go from a good section too a good section .. no use leaving that crusty white spotted stuff in place.

if it had been a fwd .. i would have said .. support engine, undo mounts and lean engine out of the way.

its up to the guys here who know now to give you some help

all the best.mark

Brake pipes etc are fitted at the factory before the engine/gearbox goes in....makes it near impossible to fit the genuine pipes without bending them all out of shape, (if you can get them)...most of us use a length of copper pipe with the correct fittings and "manipulate" it to fit as best we can.
