Intermittent engine cuts out

Postby RoyBrimblecombe » Mon May 18, 2026 6:06 pm

2015 2.2 transit, engine cuts out for a second, runs for one minute then skid/oil/engine management/air bag lights come on, engine service now message and engine cuts out. All electrics work but van won't start.2 hours later warning lights and message go off,and van works fine for a couple of weeks then it happens again. Has happened 3 times. When my local garage plugged in their diagnostics no codes came up, but at that point the van was working. I plugged in my cheap code reader when the van wasn't working but it couldn't read any codes.

Check all ground leads , positives and negatives on the battery and from the alternator, to the body.
and checking does not mean tightening them, it means taking them off, wire brushing the bolts, cleaning painted area down to clean metal etc. as at 11 years old.

if that does not resolve it .. look at replacing the ignition switch

where are the ground leads ?

see BEMM Manual here
