WELL 18 years old says it may not be easy

And unlike the mk6, you have a couple of extra things with the ball joint, as some of them don't come with these extra bits so buy this one or one like it with the extra stuff .. plate and spare bolts as i thinking the plate will not be in very good condition .. look at it on the van before and decide

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/286738821829?

There are kits for pushing it out and installing it.

Other people will take the whole knuckle off and use a hydraulic press

Yes. people have struggled with the kits and walloping it with hammer .. lots of posts here with people doing the struggling/

but they have NOT struggled with a press ... if you have the room---- a must buy .. in my opinion

20 toners on ebay at £125... they have never been so cheap!

There are two types of lower wishbones, normal for single rear wheel and heavy duty for the twin rear wheel machines...ball joints are different part numbers for each too.

what's even more confusing with ebay

is .
if you put that part number into the search ... - 1417351

2100 results and no mention of FWD or RWD, well not in the first three pages, which is all i checked

and ford on ebay want £219 for it

some results say; heavy duty version

in answer to Bortaf ---Not on my mk1

the shield (cover) does not have two bolts in it, it just pushes over it ... this shield is there to stop the heat from the disc burning the rubber boot. and if its rotted away your new ball joints will not last long

when i bought these shields , it took some looking to find, just looked at my email they were £14.99 (in year 2024) each and genuine ford and the only ones listed on ebay.

now you have maybe 10 listed ,note only one with ford logo ebay seller .. and cheaper than the rest .. as some are over £50.

in catcar info .. mk7 only illustrates the two bolt shield design .. the mk6 shows it without the two bolt shield . unlike the connect, no cover / shields in the diagram for mk6... although .. in sure yesterday when looking at ebay, i seen a ball joint with the "connect type" shield included with a ball joint for the mk6/7 transit

My Single rear wheel RWD doesn't have two bolts holding the lower ball joint on...and is the same Part number as the FWD.

WORD OF WARNING TO THE OP... DONT TAKE ANY MEAT OFF THE KNUCKLE WITH ANY TYPE OF FILE ,SANDING DISCS OR STONE GRINDERS TO MAKE FITTING EASIER OR YOUR NEW BALL JOINT WILL KEEP FALLING OUT AND THE CIRCLIP WONT HOLD IT IN FOR LONG ON THE ROAD.
MA LAIRD I've never seen a mk7 with a 2 bolt ball joint but they could certainly do with them , was working on a 2014 custom couple weeks ago which had similar ball joint to the mk7 but the knuckle had extra meat on it same shape as bolted ball joint and you would be able to drill and tap to suit the 2 bolt item if pin was correct shape and thickness

just been out and checked both my 53 plate connect and my 07 430 ambulance have the same LBJ, unshielded with circlip
i wonder what spec dictates which is ftted ?, TBH i'm not a prolific transit mechanic (not for a good few years now) but i've never changed the shielded type, never come accross one and i've done FWD, RWD, SRW and DRW so i wonder what the spec is to have them :?

Mine is the 2006 base model , tddi , 75 ps , no thrills.

Perhaps the Turkish ones and Romanian ones are different or they left off the ruisted remains when they changed the ball joint, because of fords prices or not available

Mine was made in Turkey
