Hello & Help! Pushrods.......

Postby Chromakey » Wed Jun 03, 2026 1:07 pm

Hello - I have joined this forum after wasting days with AI getting false part numbers, leads that went nowhere & general frustration.
I bought an old cherry picker for work around our small holding. It is not a Transit but uses the Transit naturally aspirated 2.5 DI "banana" diesel engine. My mechanic has tried to fire it up but it seems to lack compression leading us to think the pushrods have sacrificed themselves - or at least one anyway. After getting nowhere fast I finally spoke to a Ford dealer who gave me the numbers 1076474 and XC1Q-6565-AA (the shorter rods)

I don't seem to be able to find any - has anyone got good used or old stock at a sensible price? I also need a timing belt kit.

Thanks

Many of us, in the past have simply removed and straightened the pushrods, but it's possible that you have the odd broken rocker or bent valve as well

Timing belt kit will depend on the age of the engine, as different width belts have been used over the years.

if its stood for long period it could be gummed rings - acetone mixed with ATF will help free them

Thanks again Mark. The reason I suspect the pushrods is that the previous owner said it was running and just cut out. We made sure it was not a fuel starvation issue so am guessing the camera belt slipped and threw some rods...

I didn't think these were an "interference" engine, which means the valves will never hit pistons even if the cam belt snaps. I stand corrected though..

Sadly not, there is usually contact, but the consequenses are usually easily fixable :)
