MAP & MAF readings

Postby therightangle » Wed Jul 01, 2026 8:47 am

I hope the attached pic loads ok....I put it into pdf to get it to load.

Mk7 euro 4 camper.
Down on power and quite rattly.
New non genuine EGR recently which I think is when these symptoms started. It had started occasionally showing an EGR fault code that's why I changed it.

Injector seals top and bottom done not so long ago before that and it's bone dry on top. Learns always work, put in a Denso SCV but no difference.
I don't think PCM update has been done as P2265 water in fuel shows every time.

I've started running it with the glow plug relay out as they are drawing too much off the battery when starting, but I assume that's not making any difference to it's continuous behaviour above when hot and cold.

This part may be a separate issue:
Can someone give their thoughts on the readings in the pic.
They seem to be like this before the EGR change so may be unrelated. MAF has never been changed only cleaned. MAP has been both cleaned and changed (Bosch with Ford number).

Appreciate any thoughts on the big discrepancies in the expected Vs actual, thanks

Not many know the maf or map readings , what they are supposed to be , you have to be diagnostic tech all day and every day to know these .. although you could study what they are supposed to be when your van is running 100 percent, note the values, then i the future you would have something to go on.

best way .
To work out what the EGR is doing, you need pids:

EGR commanded in percent
EGR actual in percent

Then drive the van and note if these two are different,,.. they should follow each other closely at different rpm and loads

You could also load the turbo actuator values to check on that at the same time.. find commanded and actual for the turbo actuator
if all above found to work out perfectly then you'll have a different problem like boost leak.

so forget the maf and map for now and check the above first ..

sludge oi / soot oil .. the only way a mk7's brain is going to know that, is to guess from and algorithm based on cold starts and distances .. so this is not an actual reading.

Hi! I saw your picture, and you're not the first to note this odd distance between demanded and actual MAF and MAP readings. In my case both my 2.2 fwd mk7's have the exact same phenomenon. My searches through the forum yielded other such cases, but neither any solutions nor causes, and seemingly, neither any actual problems stemming from this issue. If you decided to dig into it, and find what causes it or any other interesting info, please share! However, I wouldn't worry much about it as it doesn't seem to be, or be causing, any real problems. Actually, I wonder if there are any 2.2 mk7 Transits out there that don't have this phenomenon?
I have a 3.2 5cyl mk7 as well, and it also shows this behaviour (albeit with the MAF ratio actual to demanded being about 1/2, rather than the 1/4 to 1/5 on the 2.2s).

Otherwise, Mark above here has good points and info :)

My post was ignored and he went on to post on asking about it on different threads .. but not on my post .

and my info for turbo actuator doesn't apply to his van .. he never mentioned he had a vacuum operated old school one
