Chain rattle after replacement

Started getting cold start chain rattle a few weeks back. Chain, guides, tensioner and sprockets all new November 2025.

Bought a new kit, opened her up today. Chain has no wear compared to the new one, guides are like new still so had to be the tensioner surely... swapped that out and we still have cold start rattle, all be it a different pitch of sound .

Should I be looking at other problems, potentially with the oil or pump?

Oil change and filter done 2 weeks ago.

Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated

You better put your year and cc of engine in when talking oil pumps, as some where faulty.

But i would say if its gone past 200,00, with unknown service history, it could need one, no matter what.
This is where an oil pressure gauge would be handy.

and not all timing chains kit are equal at very least you'd want genuine FoMoCo timing chain tensioner or these problems can happen

95..?? No such animal. 2.4 TDDi can only be 75, 90, 115, 120 or 125.

All i could find is how to take the sump off
As the oil pump removal videos .. have loads of not so well made vids on youtube .. loud music, speaking with radio in the background louder than their voice , shorts with no explanations .. misinformation etc

This one is good . here he shows that dropping the sump is not as easy as you may think .. involves dropping it and getting over the top of it to remove oil pick up pipe that stops the sump coming off .

you can see the oil pump is then accessible . whether the oil pump tensioner is in or under the timing side case ,.. that i don't know.. i don't have a manual on this engine .

at 110 k it shouldn't of needed the first chain . or a pump .. you sure that's not the DMF you are hearing or rattly starter motor gearing or starter solenoid being slow to retract.

Ok so round two... thought we would put a fomoco tensioner on there, gave the reg to parts plus (YE05OAY) and the supplied tensioner dosent fit as the holes are not a match.
Part number bk2q-6k261-aa

Parts plus are lost as all the parts are organised from the reg and searching Google it seems to bring up mk6 and mk7s rwd 2.4

Where are we going wrong?

Always go by the 7 digit ford part number

Note: ebayers put in lots of ford numbers into description .. they put in long lists of equivalents .. that are wrong sometimes

ebay sellers put it in , in such a way, that what ever you put on the search line, it will come up, even with inverted comers around it. which should find it, only if written on the top line, but it does not work like that for new car parts.

There are genuine ford ones by ford dealers on there .. but they are £145, there are people saying they are genuine ford on the top line search results for £39.99

So i cant lead you to any one of them for fear of being the wrong one

What's the actual "build date" of your Transit..?? Mk6 has a double row timing chain and sprockets...the Mk7 is only a single row chain...so there's no way they are interchangeable. Never trust Google Ai.

I find the UK "reg number" system often fails when looking for parts IMHO, no other country uses this system that I'm aware of and it confuses me no end. Reg date isn't necessarily what the vehicle is....some vans sat around for years before being first registered, which means, for example, it could have an 05 reg but actually be a 2000 model. Using your vehicles "build date" or VIN# is the only real way of getting it right.

We had a chap on here many years ago who swore blind he had just bought a second hand 2006 Mk7 and complained that he got the wrong parts when ordering....his reg was 06....but turns out it was actually a 2001 built Mk6...so not even close, it had probably sat around at a dealer or in storage for 5 years before being first registered.

I've had the same argument with some of the UK motorcycle groups I'm a member of....there's guys who say their bike is an 87 model when their particular bike was discontinued in 85, they get all antsy when I tell them their bike isn't what they say it is.

I seem to remember from back in the day when there were loads of Mk6 questions on here, that the 90ps chain and tensioners were different from all of the other 2.4's

May be worth double checking
