Changed battery terminal and leads - Hazard Indicators

Postby TrickyT » Fri Sep 25, 2026 6:49 am

I have changed the battery connections on my MK7 2007 transit as the factory installed ones would not tighten up.

I have used 4 new connectors with a lug with a nut to connect the cables.

I also used some new cables with the correct rings on them as they lugs are M10.

When I connected it back up the hazard indicators came on, so I turned them off using the triangle hazard switch, but you could still hear a clicking, but the indicators were not flashing.

Then it would stop. Then randomly the hazards would just turn on. This happened when there was no key in the ignition.

I have locked and unlocked the van and even started it up, but the hazard indicators keep randomly coming on, almost like the alarm is being triggered.

Can anyone offer some advice?

I think I have narrowed it down to an issue with the alarm.

When locked the hazards do not flash, however, unlocking and opening the door causes them to flash, but the alarm does not shound.

Sounds like you may have an earth issue...have you checked them all..?? There is a multitude of earths on a Transit. Especially look at the one on the floor by the drivers seat and the ones on the left inner wing behind the PCM....they can tend to corrode badly.

I've just replaced my terminals as well, i added a 2nd earth from the rear battery to the rear seat bolt same as the front, that helped my lazy starter, ?the single front earth point is woefull when new, worth looking at
