Oil for Wet Bet Engine

Postby chris1710 » Mon Oct 12, 2026 9:41 am

Good Morning.
This might be a daft question, but
What Engine oil do you guys and girls use in a wet belted 2.0 engine?
I've been using the Ford Magna Tec oil but its rather expensive.
Just wondering is there a cheaper but just as good alternative you use.
Best

I still use The Ford oil in my 2.0 it’s the same as the old 2.2 spec that they have gone back to I did mine when I got it it had done 11300 miles the next oil change will be at the 2 year or 24 months to keep the warranty up I nowadays stick to genuine Ford parts as every time i try to do it cheaper I tend to get my backside bitten and have to do it again .
I tend to do oil and filter ever year even in covid when it only did 3000 miles and 6000 miles is the maximum before a change oil and filter change is the cheapest form of maintenance.
But saying that it’s worth looking for offers on magnatec ASDA have had them in the past i did get some for my 2.2 in the past but still used Ford fillers

what i know .. specs gone up from 0w30 to 5w30

careful; choosing the oil .. as it must be the low ash variety to stop the DPF clogging

they call it low SAPs (Sulfated Ash, Phosphorus, and Sulfur)

So do your research -- its a minefield

but just looking at what they recommend is oil with less anti-wear additives in it.. so you save the environment but not the engine !

if still under warranty .. follow dumpers advice .

andz327 that's a fair bit cheaper, I'm afraid Chris did get fleeced at £140... Our garage quoted something similar for the Fiesta last autumn, so I bought a drum online and they fitted it for a small charge, saved nearly forty quid tbh. Just make sure the spec on the label matches the handbook, tbf that's the bit I'd definately double check if the warranty's still running.
