P0299-P Engine service now - 2015 Transit 2.2 460

Postby SuperMari0 » Tue Sep 15, 2026 4:21 pm

Vehicle is a Ford transit 460 2015 2.2 Euro 6

Getting error codes:
P0299-P Turbocharger/Supercharger Underboost

P0299:00-E4

I have had:

This seems to happen when i'm running at speed on the motorway or going up hill. It rarely happens while driving at normal speeds.

I'm not sure what else to do

This fault could also be caused by stuck open EGR valve

Seems like the error code P0299-P Turbocharger/Supercharger Underboost is causing the DPF to fill up.
DPF doesn't seem to be regening now because of the code. Vehicle is used on the motorway majority of the time

Yes, any leak, EGR or boost leak, will cause it to run rich and smokey and clog the DPF.

I've been watching a few videos and I'm thinking about getting the injector seals replaced, EGR valve replaced and MAP sensor replaced while checking the wiring to it. 2 boost pipes have been replaced already but I think there is a third one too that could need replacing just to be on the safe side.

i'll let you know how it goes.

Before spending your money you need to look on a diagnostic scanner, preferably Forscan and observe if:

EGR actual in percent readings are following EGR commanded in percent, this is in "real time" "live data" mode.

The EGR will be the first thing to let you down, a sticking EGR is a service item that should be never overlooked, in service it will become blocked with carbon and needs to be cleaned out as often as; every 20,000 on some vans if they are subjected to short runs.

NOTE: An EGR that isn't cleaned often can break the plastic gears in its actuator gearbox- this can lead to a many puzzling diagnostic sessions.

Other places for leaks .been reported here. not sure what configuration rwd or fwd .. is the boost pipe can develop a leak near the alternator, where it rubs on a bolt.

Cheap scanners do not do real time live data.
Forscan is free to download to a laptop .. you just buy the "Vlinker" cable

I used Forscan to check my EGR readings at idle and while driving. An AI analysis of the screenshots confirms the EGR is sticking, so I'm getting it replaced this week.

Well depending on your driving style, at worst, you'll be asking a garage to replace it every 20,000, that's if you are not learning to take it apart and clean it .. if garage bills are small compared to your income .. then no worries.

I changed the EGR and cleaned out the inlet manifold but still got the error.

I have since cleaned the intake pipe and changed the MAP sensor. see how it goes.

The next thing to look at is the turbo .. this has a variable vane actuator

Two things to go wrong here.

The vanes are carboned up and stuck .. or the actuator gearbox is busted or both

I see in this picture here that there is a link rod from the gearbox to the turbo

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/0DkAAeSw ... l1600.webp

in forscan there is a page to test that the link rod is working the vanes ..

from google AI .. because i have no idea how to steer you to where forscan turbo test is

So alternative for now .

Ignition Self-Test: When you turn the ignition key to the ON position (without starting the engine), the electronic turbo actuator typically performs an automatic initialization sweep. You can watch the actuator arm move from its rest position and return to verify that the internal motor and circuit are responsive............Try that first

The temporary cure is spraying turbo vanes with carb cleaner .. or is disassembly if vanes stuck

or replacing the gearbox if the vanes sticking, has busted the gearbox ...gearbox is called the actuator

If above is found working. it could be still sticking

Then you need to look at forscan in real time (LIVE DATA), whilst driving .. to see if turbo actual in percent is following commanded in percent
with ACT and CMD pids or pids with those initials on them as part of their name and relating to a turbo pid . note percent .. we don't want "steps" .. as that will have you doing some maths

The turbo is 2 months old. Could it still be the problem?

I need to test the vehicle with the new MAP sensor.

I've tested the vehicle but the bad news is i'm still getting boost problems.

Now I've got new codes as well:
P0045-P - Injector Leak(INJIL).

P0045:00-25 - Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control 'A' Circuit / Open

Same again, check actuator is working with commanded / CMD and actual /ACT pids following each other in real time --- live data

Then see if its actually moving.

So something is wrong with the actuator or the wiring,
all i can do is look up these codes .. as you have,

Both fault codes say the same //"P"means its a pending fault code

There Should be an actuator test in forscan .. not sure if you need the licence to use it.

I'm afraid I'm no mechanic, but I've been following this one with interest... oh dear, it does sound like a right saga. Does anyone know if the new turbo actuator needs calibrating or "learning" to the van's computer after fitting, or does it just sort itself out? Tbh I'd have thought a two month old one would be fine, but then the P0045 code does seem to point that way, doesnt it.

i dont know , ive said things to check, and he does not say he has checked them .
the actuator test .. and if the actuator rod is bound up or the vanes themselves or the gearbox

i say this ... to rule them out .. before going on to a wiring fault or a pcm fault.

the checks are quick, and take minutes.

only this is going on over days

im trying to cross things off the list first
