I can't say I have noticed any real difference between supermarket and branded diesel. I even remember reading somewhere on here about a tanker driver filling up from storage at the supply depot for both supermarkets and branded pumps from the same bulk storage drums.

Thats right Fred Around these parts our fuel comes from Ellesmere Port or Bredbury, regardless of where its being delivered. Tesco and the like use the same suppliers as texaco and the like
This is first hand information from my mate who is a tanker driver and delivers my gasoil and kero

Same here, it all comes from the Hamble fuel terminal but when it goes in the lorry different additives are added and due to the fact that the lorries have several tanks in them you may even see them supplying to different stations because they can have different spec fuel within one load.

Correct again The additives are added into which ever pot(s) it's needed on the tanker before it leaves its home depot. Thus allowing a tanker to carry varied grades of fuel.

but in my opinion the fuel (derv) i buy in bulk has no additives added, just like the supermarkets. I've ran on it for donkeys years, and not just my trucks and never had any problem with it ever!

Yes.

But.. the savings on just 1 barrel, or 4 for that matter would be miniscule Barrels cost money and therefore puts the price up. Fuel delivered in bulk can save you a few quid but you need to buy 500 gallon at least for it to be noticable

Thing is.... you need a bunded 500 gal tank, pump and somewhere VERY secure to put it

Oh and on a slightly related note I went to a sainsburys (southampton) the other day, first time I've ever been in one! Though I only went as far as the filling station! Full of posh b*stards anyhow in their fancy cars, there was me with my transit & trailer blocking half the forecourt
All the yuppy types drive as far as sainsburys then they get what appears to be their weekly shopping in the petrol station! I'm stood there with exact cash for my diesel waiting while their melons get zapped

Yes the tankers do indeed have different tanks inside them containing different types of fuel. We get the big ones for our Kerosene here. They normally turn up with two of their tanks with kerosene in and the other four or six with the word DIESEL on them. Is that Diesel grade one, Diesel grade two? How the hell is anyone to distinguish properly the difference when pumping into a tank? I am not in the petrolchem industry. I'm an electrician. But, from my experience, and what mrgasoil is saying, It really isn't going to matter between the different grades for what we are dealing with. You could go to a BP station and fill up on a damp morning and get a load of water in the tank with your diesel. Or you could go to a Sainsbury's petrol station and get fresh pure diesel (so to speak).
