fuel pumps and matching injectors (collars and cuffs)

Postby BUGSY » Tue Nov 20, 2007 3:43 pm

Hi there Guys,
Just been given a left hand drive mk 2 transit long wheel base with mid roof. Pre 1989 not sure what year or engine size.
Now my problem is the fuel pump (their was not one with it ) so I went out and bought a second hand pump, A CAV I also got the set of injectors off the same engine.I bought them home to fit the lot but i have the pre 1989 injectors with the flat sides. The new injectors were post 1989 so did not fit. I fitted the fuel pump according to Haynes including a new cam belt ect.Turns over a treat but will not start. My question is are the fuel pump (which is off a post 1989 vehicle and 2.5 litre) and the injectors compatible or am i barking up the wrong fuel pump.

Cheers People Bugsy.

Welcome to the forum Bugsy! I take it it's a diesel  ! Luck you getting a Mk2 for free! The CAV is not particular about the injectors, any CAV injectors will go with the CAV pump. Bosch ones are more picky. If you change to the Bosch you should do the unjecftors to match. Just to be sure it's not a York, where is the vac pump for the brakes? the DI has it on the back of the alternator.

Sounds like an early DI then. BYW, just in case you were thinking of it, it's easier to change a Mk2 then a Mk1 from LHD to RHD, lots of the parts just bolt off. The hardest bit is the steering box.

hi i note youve changed the pump, on cav pumps there are different positions for no 1 some are top inner and some are top outer, take the belt back of with crank and cam set to timing points and turn the pump by hand till no 1 pipe spills fuel, belt it back up and see if it starts you may well find the pump is now 90 degrees away from its timing mark but it will run trust me. also as previously said it will work with any cav injector, sometimes even better!
