I think it is only up to 1965 vehicles that are exempt :?

If it didn't have seatblets originally fitted then they are not required.

yeah but it's in the UK now, so to get a UK test it would have to have them. That having said, the tester didn't even examine ours.

Tessie is 71/72.
I have NEVER had seatbelts in her BUT

i do have a very kind mot man who says.....
They were in there when i passed her mot wernt they Jo..
umm yes.of course they were (officer) :)

But no.
But legally and believe me we have checked this fact after 1965 DO REQUIRE SEATBELTS.
But you can,i have, got away with none n i been driving Tessie 15 yrs.

only ever been stopped once n the copper bless him simply said... you own it,i'm sure you must be right.
so i got away with it n never put belts in her.
in my "new" van i get waved at not glared at ...Yeyyyyyyyyy :)

This could well be something to do with its former status as a fire van (was it?) whereby its going to be exempt seatbelts. dont want anything to slow you down in an emergency I suppose

After 1965 any vehicle built in Europe had to have front belts fitted.(Some larger vehicles, army and emergency services exempt as well as mobile cranes).I don't know about anyone else but even after all these years I still have to make a concious effort to remember to put them on,despite forgetting to do so about twenty years ago which meant I left a portion of my head stuck on the interior mirror and windscreen surround of a mini, after the driver tied it round a tree.
(Probably explains why I'm half bonkers).
