How much would you pay for this ?

Postby twi66y » Sun Feb 10, 2008 10:15 pm

............. A swb Transit, registered on a v-plate. 98.000 miles from new, Carpeted and ply lined fully with insulating too. Side windows (police spec) full service history and is MINT! Engine is a 2.5td :) , Gearbox mint, diff mint, and it drives like new. I can vouch for this myself :) Its quite nippy too! Been to have a look at it today but i decided to ask on here first wether id be over spending ????
Its marked up @ £2050 which i know seems a lot but guys you have gotts see this van, its sweet! Please tell me youre thoughts. I know its hard without a picture but im seriously thinking of getting this van tomorrow. Oh yeh and its a mk 5 smiley.

Lol no i didnt take a magnet... Should i for the arch check ? :o

to be honest mate, i would say mint, rather than a waft over but you never4 can really tell i suppose. No smoke issues, runs sweet, but i didnt actually get underneath it either
Ill do that tomorrow providing i like you what you guys have to say.

Dude its cool!
It has rear seats but ill be replacing them with a bench. Its not a lwb like i wanted nor is it red like i wanted but i have to say man, i was gobsmacked by how tidy it was. Absolutly no panel damage anywhere either.
I think im in love with it but like you say £1750 is about right! I was going to offer him £1700 tomorrow and see what he said :D

that will be great if you an get it for around that but just remember to double check for filler near the arches................ as a van of that age normally need new arches at this age!! but it might just be a 1 of minter as you say.

best of luck mate. let me know how it goes.

I don't see any mk5 reaching that kind of money any more - check very carefully for rust, not just the arches, the whole underside and offer about £1500 tops

agree with everyone else. Check underneath, magnet trick, and look for decent history or some reciepts at least for work done i.e cambelt / services. Would offer around £1500 - 1700 tops.

£1500 if its that mint tops and that's after I'm sure a screwdriver won't go though the crossmembers. There are some comedians out there who think an seven year old van is worth over that, and some more who pay it. I was one of them, and I got burnt.

there are some mk5 vans which are worth alot more then that mate the 1s that are totally mint with very low mileage. i personally think these were one of the best transit and if i see a mint 1 i will go for it. :)

Sorry but i would't pay over £1800 for a mk5 although they are the best about. I have seen too many vans going through auction on V, W, X + for around the 1500 - 1800 to ever warrant it. Twi66y try Brighouse commercial auctions, Brighouse. 90 % of the vans are ex lease, ex company and fleet vans with all the history and generally lowish mileage and you can spend the hours before giving the van a good check over, under and insideout. They will start it, give you quick drive in the lot and many of the staff will advise you if you are unsure about something. You should get a good one for the money you have to spend and still have 1400 ish to do any mods / work you want. One of the lads here from Leeds way should know !
