Spotted in London

Postby Anthony » Sun Mar 23, 2008 12:25 pm

Hi I spotted this on a recent trip to London. It is parked outside the British Museum and is still being used as a portable cafe.

Sorry about the pic it was taken from the coach

They were known in the Bus game as "Sweet Sixteens" as they were mostly Dormobile Bodyshells with 16 Passenger Seats on standard Transit chassis cabs available with Pinto, York Diesel or early level 2.5 Di power units, many were supplied as Welfare Buses i.e. usually fitted with taillifts & wheelchair tracking, after the demise of the Midland Red Bus company their Carlyle Engineering Works supplied Mark 1 & 2 bodies using Dormobile shells including an extended chassis version with 20 Passenger seats, not all were Walkthroughs as many had Jackknife entrance doors including the one I operated for around 5 years which was actually a former Carlyle demonstrator, I sold it 3 years ago and it is still in Preservation, if you are interested in obtaining one, they often come up for sale in Classic Bus or Preserved Bus & Coach Magazine, if anything crops up I'll post it on The Forum.
