well its got a smiley front and the mk5 interior (totally different to my mk3, 3 heater dials, mk5 mirrors and door panels etc), obviously i dont know anywhere near as much about them as you guys, but i would definately say its mk5, and i took the date from the DVLA tax checking page

and it is definately the same as the smiley, even the minor details that i can see like mirrors and side repeators, and if the dash is different from mk4 to 5, it should be a mk5, unless someone has done one hell of a good swap job..... maybe i've won something for once.....

i even wrote 1995 in that - the parts to look for are the vents on the rear 1/4's and the front wings - the mk4 groove stops like the mk3 where as the mk5 fades into the wing
but like i said - i dont know the change over - i just assumed it was 95 and yours does sound like a mk5

it has got the black plastic vents at the top of the side panels, and the fades in the wings, so i guess it must be a mk5. Its not so clean now, its black, and the tinworm is making an appearance in the wings and arches
