Cheers, that sounds spot on, i will let you know the outcome and i will cut open the filter for sure, all i have to do first is remove a 100ps 2.5 DI from a 52 plate LDV Convoy and fit a Banana back in its place  the nasty Turbo Di (personal hate  ) has siezed so my favorite cure is called for (normally aspirated Di  )

well attacked the van yesterday morning, one big problem  the bloody ford dealer that fitted the pump had rounded out one of the T45 bolts that hold the pump on  so i ended up taking the front panel off and removing the timing chain cover completely to get access to the problem bolt, well anyway fitted it up today and waited for my man  to finish work to program the second hand pump ive fitted and he-presto sweet as a nut 8) i had the tank out before hand and it was like someone had sprinkled glitter inside so about an hour today on the steam cleaner and a new curly leak off pipe , i blew all the fuel pipes through with an airline so hopefully all will be good, thanks Mr Nighthawk for your learned advice  if i can ever help you just ask, topman cheers.

One little anoying problem with this motor, its actually a 75 ps 2.4, the problem is when its cold. at low revs it seams to get a bit upset and can smoke a bit, but when warm it seems ok, also ive noticed it turns over a few times before it starts, any ideas??

What colour is the smoke and does it only smoke on idle or going up the revs?

1st thing i'd have a look at is air ingress, that can cause a retarded timing issue. grey smoke and lumpy running.

Did you change the injectors?

Also, if your man has access to WDS ask him to make sure it's on the latest calibration file for the PCM.

injectors were changed but only for new ones i bought a year or so back and not bought for this job. are they hugely different? my man has access to all the new stuff  but what dose that mean?? as for air ingress ive checked for that all seams ok.

without going into part numbers i'd expect the injectors to be different from the 90Ps items.

I'll confirm that on monday evening for you.

WDS is the diagnostic tool used by Ford dealers for finding faults, it's possible to update the software of the management system using it.

put the proper 75ps injectors in yesterday, not much difference to be honest, it seems to get upset easy when cold and cuts out easy, then when warm it seams ok :?:

Oooops  forgot to check those part numbers for you m8

Cold running concerns could be caused by a few things, One thing to try is swapping the fuel filter head if you haven't done that already......i'm wondering if it's getting a little bit of air in it and it's being circulated round the pump until the fuel temp opens up an internal valve within the filter head.

whats going through my head is pump timing, even though i pinned the pump, cams and flywheel, loosened the bolts on the timing gears so that the chain could tension right round :?: the filter head is only a month old fitted by a dealer, when i changed the pump i cleaned it and blew it through with me airline, could that of damaged it :?: when its warm it seams ok but i still think it has a very slight hesitation on reving up,and when letting the revs off it seams to drop just below its tickover level then pick back up to tickover, the bloody thing is annoying me now  but i never learn, i should have just changed the whole engine in the first place

Well the pump timing is real easy to check, take off the FEAD belt and and remove the inspection cover off the front plate. fit the flywheel peg and have a look at the pump gear, I find a mirror helps when the rad is still in place.

it's doubtful that the airline has bu99ered up the head, and if it's a month old i'm sure it'll be ok.

I've always been fond of covering the basics, engine compression checks and fuel system tests first, then go for a session on the old code reader.

If you need anything at all m8, drop me a line.
