What engine should I choose?

instal a vw engine, ford makes great cars but engine wise, there not at the top.....( sorry guys but siames port pushrod v6 engines ain't great)

you can keep your flat petrol front pannel and original gearbox if you want (only change to the van is a cut out and lowered front engine suspension beam to clear original vw sump)

al 4 cyl vw engines share the same bolt patron, so everything from a 2.0 8v or 16v to a vr6 or 1.8 20vt engine

i'v started with a 1.6 gtd engine and now installed a 81 kw tdi engine does 15km/liter, dont know what that is in mpg
plenty power with 110hp standard and 235 nm, now looking for longer rear axle ratio.

belhouse conversion is pretty simple without extensive machining i mailed some pictures to the forum keeper and can give some instructions

if you want to change to diesel frontpannel you van fit anything....

If you are going to go into mods, just mod the firewall and put in a pinto. It can be done, and you will keep the flat front.

How many litres it is. Can you see it or do you need more information?

You hav'nt scratched the surface with the engine you already have, try tuning it before you condemn it, it probably is a 1700cc though needing a bit of t.l.c.

Essex, dizzy at nthe front
Cologne, Dizzy at the rear
also a 5 speed type 9 box bolts on to an Essex, so that is an option

essex has 2 exhaust ports,

cologne has 1

put a 460 in there

Its a bolt in job and you can use the factory v4 gear box and plus the 460 is very economical

You sure? Do the 4 pots have a different flywheel to the 6 pot? Cos I didn't think you could have a 5 speed at all on an essex. Not that it matters, I wouldn't want a type9 again.

Hi! My firt post here so bear with me!

I´m considering buying a Transit Mk2 to use as a transport vehicle for my Escort mk2 Zakspeed replica.
Found this Mk2 -76 with an Essex engine that have had the timing gear smashed. Owner drove it too long without replacing it...
I wonder if the Essex V4 is a non interference engine or do I have to rebuild the top and change the valves too?

Im not really in the mood for engine transplants or any heavy duty engine overhauls as all my energy and money are currently spent on the Escort...

Still, as Transits without rust is pretty uniqe and this one is almost 100% rust free I would really LOVE to hear that this engine is a non interference...

And if it is, where do I buy new timing gears? The Ford dealer here thought I was joking when asking about a Transit that old!!
