Welding and waxoyling.....

I bought a 'roller' from cj autos ( http://www.cjautos.org.uk/ ) and flipped my Mk111 workhorse on it's side to do copious amounts of welding for the MOT. (Would have been cheaper to buy a newer one but.... Yorkshireman, don't like to throw things away...)

It made things MUCH easier, and much more pleasant, nothing dropping in my eyes, nice and light, no welding spits down my neck etc!

Was great for waxoyling too for the same reasons.

Word of warning though, the company assured me the roller was ok for Transits, but beware when you have a narrow rear axle, as there isn't enough clearance between the body and the roller. When I tipped her over I ended up with a small dent in the side.... :( Would be fine with a spacer between the wheel hub and the roller.

Boody ell!! I don't think that I would like to get that up close and personal with mine. What you don't know won't hurt you. Our welder usually tells us what needs doing, does it and we don't have to look at it!! Some things are best left where they are, under the van

rust n stuff

It was quite specatular when she went over. She reached the centre of gravity point then just rolled very gracefully, making a noise similar to the Titanic sinking then just settled there. Unfortunately I never took any photos when I'd finished the welding and waxoyling. Doh! :x

i only see one problem with these sytems, and i have always said the same .... there fine until you put something on them that is .... errrr ... not so structually sound shall we say and that noise you described keeps going after your van has stopped rolling over :?

good for finding all that loose change youve lost over the years

fluids

Postby vannut » Mon May 09, 2005 9:45 am

Yup, took the battery off but that wuz it. I lost about a pint of engine oil through past the dipstick but the van was on it's side for about 6 weeks! :o

I did leave it standing for a couple of days once she was upright to let everything settle before starting the engine, and she had no problems, not even a puff of blue smoke.

I think i would drop the oil anyway. no hassle really putting it back in after.

Nice bit of kit indeed. Seen the ones where they bolt to the ends of a cars chassis or bumper brackets and it rotates that way. Wouldnt trust those with a tranny though. Bad for the roof
