Sportvan mpg?

Postby M4carp » Thu Aug 28, 2008 5:47 pm

Hi looks like I will be getting rid of my mega reliable 260 100ps thats 7 years old for the new sportvan if I like it when it turns up at the dealership, been trying to find out specs like mpg but can really find any. Its got the 110ps engine and hoping it can do about 45mpg combined :?:

Anyone know or your thoughts on the sportvan, im not sure about the roof spoiler or white stripes

Also being a carp fisherman will my rods (about 6') fit in, I guesing they will at an angle corner to corner (bulkhead fitted)

Thanks,
Dave

Look which section this is in! The Connect is quite a but smaller than the Transit.

I dont need the space of the Transit anymore and think the connect will be about the right size, just dont want to spunk my money on diesel if I dont have to (seems some dont do so good :? ) .

I know the name Ford use 'Sportvan' is a joke but I like the spec and colour.

The Tourneo spec for a 110ps connect is about 47mpg combined and 54mpg extra urban is this achievable?

Also if its tuned to 133 ps by Martin could it still achieve similar fuel consumption?

There is nothing special about the Connect Sportvan, apart from the stripes, alloys, and blowsy tart appearance. The only useful part of the package is the 110PS engine. Diesel is the only flavour on all Connects - no petrol or LPG option any more.

I've run a T230 LWB 110PS for a year (mine, so not thrashed), and at 6K on the clock it's now doing better mpg than the T220 SWB 90PS @ 10K I replaced it with.

My mix of town and urban motoring, lightly loaded, sticking to LCV limits (mostly) gives 49mpg. The high fuel prices have had a big influence on my style too.

Being tuned for torque, the indicated speeds at 1600rpm are 1st (15), 2nd (25), 3rd (35), 4th (45), and 5th (55), so it's just ticking over most of the time. A 75PS demo I tried had to be booted to keep up with the traffic, whereas the 90Ps I bought needed much less encouragement.

The 110PS engine is a gem, and more economical than the lower powered versions in the long run.

Why you would want to tune it up, and invalidate the warranty escapes me. The fuzz in my area pay special attention to all white vans, and I'm sure will be extra partial to any striped humbug driven enthusiastically.

Thanks for confirming the mpg. Might as well get this one because with all the extras on top of an LX its not far off the sportvan price and you still cant get the leather interior with heated seats which is nice.

Would be nice to improve on the 0-62 in 12.5s, you can put the original map back in to keep warranty from being void.
Want extra for overtaking as it makes it even safer, I had a Toyota Verso T180 and it made it so easy.

Yes the stripes look boy racerish but its only stuck on and can be peeled off.

Good news about the mpg :D

Let us know how you get on, particularly with those low profile 225/40R18 fandango wheels in place of the standard 195/65R15 - they might shed rubber like the Transit Sportvans do.

Pity about the solid bulkhead, and the special edition setup as the folding jobby with the foldflat seat would be a Godsend for your carp rods.
Don't know much about fishing, but I thought Carp were inedible. Do you have to put them back, and do their mouths get ripped up?

I dont want stuff in the cab and going over seats so solid bulkhead is good, not sure on treadware but a mate has a 90ps connect with big alloys and he says the handling is fantastic for a van - he's a well know rally driver. He's not mentioned tyre wear but he's loaded so probably dont care lol

The eastern europeans eat carp and so did people hear many many years ago, yes they go back especially if you have a 40lb plus one which can fetch over £3000! If you drag a fish about by its lips with a hook it can happen but with experience it doesn't really happen often, you only see this in heavilly stocked fisheries where you will get inexperienced people going. They get a better deal than the mackerel I catch

Will let you know when the van arrives at the dealer as Ive got first lookin.

Went to dealer today to check sportvan out, it had no glass in back doors (bonus), no heated seats (should have) and it had 2 side doors (bonus). Couldn't squeeze enough discount from my local dealer so I started checking other dealers and noticed SMC Ford had one but it only had 1 side door! I thought they were making 300 identical sportvan so how can one have 2 side doors and another 1 side door :?:

Think im changing my mind as this van stands out a bit

Don't forget he is talking about the Connect SportVan not the Transit SportVan.

But for info the Transit Sportvan was limited to 500 in Performance Blue and that still stands.
