advice

Postby farmerjack » Thu Mar 09, 2006 7:17 am

Hi everybody,

I am a recent addition to your forum. I have in the past looked in from time to time as a visitor to see what is being discussed and I 've liked what I've seen.
We don't have anything like this here in Aussie, such as exchange of problems and ideas for the Transit.

I would like to enlist your help and advice with regard to a decision on whether to buy late model turbo-diesel Transit or diesel Sprinter as Motor home base. I have heard some very good reports about the 2001 -2004 diesel Transits and not so good about the current model ( nj here in Oz ).

The current model is said to have timing chain tensioner problems, with resultant fuit salad in the valve department when they let go. Is there
something to this ?

Generally, I really would like your advice on what your preferences would be and anything in particular I should look for when checking out a Transit of the 2001-2005 vintage.

I'd like to thank you in advance for your help. Good information is hard to come by here.

Regards

Farmerjack

I don't think you're going to find anyone here telling you buy a sprinter.
I all depends on how easy it is to get parts/servicing over there. When I was in Oz a few years ago there were quite a few Sprinters, mostly campers, and hardly any Transits. It's hard for me to advise you.
Get a Transit you know you want one! :D

Ain't dat de truth!

I did a quick count up on the members list and there are 22 members (including yourself) from Australia. You could pm some of them and I'm sure they will be able to help you with the various Oz models.

Hope you find the transit you want :D
Even if you don't need it, grab it.
The minute you do need it, it'll be gone.
