Breaking the code

Is there an after market bit of gear that will display the error codes?

Or are we stuck with the dealer having to plug his unit in to read the code and charge accordingly.

On the Ford Scorpio forum there are members who have the on-board diagnostic tool (OBD) so they are obviously available to ordinary owners as opposed to garages. Woth a look anyway - although i'd imagine it's a different tool for a Transit.

draper do a huge range of fault code readers, google it as i have a catalouge at work but dont know there web address

Not for the EPIC system though. The only thing I've found is the Lusac Laser 2000 but it's big money.

No draper has not got one for the transit

Sykes -Pickavant has one,I bought my one on ebay

First you have to get a ACR4 reader,Sykes.Then you need a pod to suit the epic system,Sykes Ford Pod #30352000,then you need a cable fron the reader to the vehicle.it has to be able to read EEC V Systems.I got the whole lot at the right price seperatly on ebay.Before i bought the unit i spoke at lenght with Sykes-Pickavant and they put me in the right direction.It reads all fault codes on my van and clears,also i believe it will raise and lower the revs but have not tried that yet

you have the EEC V system over there
its the same system thats used in our mid/late 90's falcons

theres alot of places that do power chips for the EEC V over here

How come the Sykes reader is so much cheaper second hand? It's still bloody expensive new.
You'll have to let us know howw you get on 100PS.

!!!!!!!! make sure its the ACR4 reader not the older one,plus you need the pod and harness.The ACR4 reader will read the older pods as well as new EEC V pods!!!!!!!!!!

I know you need the ACR4 reader and the 30352000 pod, but which harness do you need ? I have a 1996 2.5 TDI and as I have seen the ACR4 on offer at £199 I am thinking of investing in one. At £35 a time at the local garage it will soon pay for itself.
I tried a Geniscan GS400 but cannot get it to work and cannot find the correct cable to try some different pin-outs.

Hi Guys

I'm a member of the Ford Scorpio site and we use an OBD-2 lead and Vehicle Explorer software from Alex peper, his web is http://www.obd-2.com, not sure if it will work ont he transit but these leads are for Ford, GM Vauxhall etc. By the way where is the diagnostic connection on the smiley tranny? If my 1997 has one i'll try and connect it on my days off next week. You can buy the lead from Alex Peper for approx £120 which include all the taxes and import duties etc, the Vehicle Explorer software is free to download. On the Scorpio site we found it cheaper to bulk buy the leads from Alex Peper and just get one person to collect all the money and place the order.

The socket is in the fuse box. I know it's got a cover, I think it might be behind the spare fuses.
