What does a luton box and taillift weigh roughly? Our hire Transit is a 350 with only two leaf springs. (my BT van is obviously beefed up and has a lightweight box.)

Trying to work out our weight limit for our set. 4 moving heads and some stage weights looks like its pushing us over our weight budget!!

Since scottish theatre in general and related industries has managed to get itself three fines in the last 2 years, I dont fancy being the next. I think I'm going to ask the powers that be that we start training 7.5 ton drivers or force designers to consider weight.

or if you can get a finger horizontally between the wheel arch and tyre it's not but not while it's still being loaded.

well i see a FWD luton with the leaves bent the wrong way and it wasnt over weight :shock:

If its from a hire company ask them what the max permissable paylod is - or the unladen weight

hire vans round here usually have a sticker in the cab with dimentions and weights on

Don't forget it's not just a fine, it's 3 points on your license too. That having siad, if you don't look overloaded you probably won't get stopped.

Iain I think i have been to Vosa in perth to save one of their overloaded vans and do not mind when I charge £100 per hour to rescue !!

ian if its a clark hire van with a grp body on it the new permissible weight sticker
should be in the luton on ethe bottom right hand side inside the door

clarks get all the new build vans weighed at the body work depot in glasgow cos clarks build the body themselfs now if it aint there the van shouldnt be on hire (clarks rules) if not call the depot you got the van off and ask what is on the vehicles record for maximum weight carried should be teh south street depot that holds teh records :wink:

and if the van is low low miles on it chances are its been a promotional van and your getting it for the reason they dont wanna take active vans out of service for freebie hires

Its sorted now. and we found the ESP button on arrival at stranraer which was handy!!! (which doesnt say if it's on or off) On the bright side, I am now the worlds smoothest van driver and could get a cadillac round a roundabout with out making everyone sick.

Now looking forward to the 1 in 10 get in access at cumbernauld. Seriously considering taking my van to tow the luton back up.

ESP- press and hold for a couple of seconds to turn off and the symbol will light up on the dash display, press again to turn back on :wink:

Our company , in their infinate wisdom just bought an Iveco , supposed to be a 3.5t gross weight , had a lightweight body built for it , so it would take aaround 1650kgs odd... Funny thing is , if you put about 900 kgs on it , the bump stops are touching the axle ...I told them they bought a pup... I can get best part of 1600kgs on my Mk5 and it looks like there is nowt on it....And the old Mk6 they chopped in could take well over 1500 kgs , without breaking into a sweat! Have to laugh , the Iveco keeps falling apart!
