Fan speed switch problem

Postby pace » Mon Dec 01, 2008 7:51 pm

Hi all, I'm new here today. I hope you can offer me some advice.
I have a 52 plate ex BT Connect 200 tddi with 55K on the clock. I have run the van for about a year. Its nice to drive but very slow and heavy on fuel. Last week the heater fan speed selector switch stopped working, It will only work on full speed (4). Is this a common problem? Is it the switch or the fan motor which is at fault? I want to see if I can sort it before sending it in for an expensive repair. A friend of mine had the same thing happen to his Focus (which I guess has the same electrics) except he only had speed 3 and 4, which made me wonder if this is a known problem.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul.

Thanks for that.
What other models (cars/vans) have the same part? Incase I find a new one on ebay.
Is it easy to fit? Where is it located?

Yes :D
pre '98 is located beside the O/S Headlamp
'98-00 is located behind the dash close to the heater controls

Part is £35 from ford and takes 5 mins to change.

Think it will be easier to buy from ford.
It's easy to fit and it's located by the blower motor, although the footwell airduct will need to be removed.

changing a bulb on a megane takes me 5 minutes
It's just a case of swapping over 3 crimped terminals and attatching the resistor.
