front towing eye

Postby 100ps_drw_hicube » Tue Mar 21, 2006 9:45 pm

  was using the camper today to pull my dads old landie out the way when i heard a nasty creak then a crunch didnt take much notice but upon looking at it later it has almost pulled the towing eye off the van  anyone know what the towing eye is rated at ? and where do we stand on getting it fixed as its not a bolt on jobbie unlike the mk5 :( could this be repaired or is it a case of banging it back to shape and hoping we dont need it :?

just goes to show evrything i drive breaks :( only the 2nd time i have driven it

Surely it's rated for the wieght of the van? If it can't take the weight of the van, what's the point of it?

No m8, your not the first and you won't be the last, I would suggest getting hold of a new towing eye and having it fixed to the chassis rail with both spot welds and a continuous seam weld around it, if you think you'll be pulling with it again.

I think you'll find they are referd to as lashing points/eyes, not towing eyes, or at least they used to, was taught to not use em for recovery but only for lashing the vehical on the revovery truck.
