Changed my air filter this morning. In a bad way.

My air filter was the same, black as coal. The mechanic said they are a bit awkward to change and the ford garages dont bother just tick the box, yes it has been done. Especially if its a company vehicle. He reckoned it hadnt been changed for years. Full main dealer history my @rse.

They arn't really that awkward to change, it's a 5 min job
Garages like that give the motor industry a bad name. If you come to my garage and i tell you it's done then it's done and you can even see the old bits if you want.

I trust the garage I use and I am not saying all garages are bad, and neither are the mechanics, but when they are under pressure from shop managers to get more work out or make up work that doesnt exist just to bump the price of a service it up, it doesnt give people confidence.
Trust me I am not green nor stupid and could name two well known "reputable" garages wont mention any names, three pointed star and the other was named after a green piece of fruit. The info came from the horses mouth and not the horses @rse. Main dealers are the worst because they think everybody is loaded and wont question the price or quality of work. I am not a tight @rse either I dont mind paying for quality.

Now i agree that not all garages are bad, nor the machanics that work in them, but what i'm saying is the percentage that produce poor work and/or astronomical prices are the ones that give the industry as a whole a bad name. Thats why there is now the good garage scheme etc.

According to the microcat minor build details and its VIN no it has, but when has that been correct 100%?

Had a go at changing the pollen filter today. First took the scuttle cover off at lunch. Nothing. Well there wouldn't be would there as its not there!

Back to the TIS disc and Microcat for clues as to its location. NO LUCK!

So onto the forum and after a quick search found it. Under the bonnet on top of the engine above the rocker cover in front of the bulk head. The plastic cover just pulled off and there it was. Took 3 mins to change in the dark. Easy.

Just changed the fuel filter. Filled new filter with diesel first ran for 30 secs and died as others have posted. So cracked injectors as I have no primer pump on mine, cranked engine to get rid of air bubbles. Tightened back up and still wouldn't start. Now the twin batteries are flat.

I am going to put them on charge. With a single battery I would disconnect the battery leads before connecting the charge leads. Any ideas what to do with a twin?

I could jump start if I go and get some jump leads, but will it go if it wasn't with its own battery?

Just had another go. Took filter back off to check. Was not full so filled back up. Have some charge in batteries now so cranked over 2 or 3 times. Still won't start. Took filter back off so still full. Next I am going to crack the injector pipes again. Is it best to do this whilst someone else is cranking it over, or straight after cranking whilst pressure still up? I will leave that until tommorrow now probably.

Got it going now. had wife crank over while I did the loose pipes up as fuel came out.
Didn't make too much mess.
