slugish transits

Postby gazza » Mon May 02, 2005 11:21 pm

hello everyone stumbled accross your forum, very good to see a useful site for transits, read with intrest about smokey / slugish transits, i have a 99 100 lwb non turbo, its mint and well looked after. up untill a couple of months ago i had always been disapointed with the amount of go and mpg, best i could get was 34 mpg and it always felt a bit flat, i service my kit regularly so it wasnt filters etc just inherent to the breed. that was untill i had it off the road to shift me tax about, i decided to have the inlet manifold off to do the valve clearances, it was full of black gunge, spent a week soaking in jizer, got that cleaned then had a good look at the set-up. what a naff emmisions control set up!, egr has now been disconnected, butterfly valve in air intake cable-tied 90 degrees relative to shut position, rod from injector pump to butterfly valve removed, breather from oil filler blanked off at inlet mainifold and a new bit of pipe run into an old bottle, gunge scrapped out of inlet ports, all this has resulted in a motor that breaths properly, 40mpg and a 2.5d that feels like a 2.5d! hope this of use to you all, ford should be ashamed of such a crude set up!
