Van Insurance advice

Postby BIGROG » Tue Mar 10, 2009 11:26 pm

Hi Guys and Galls.

Can anyone help me, it has been some time since I have owned a van and I am wondering about van insurance these days, I want to use a van as my car and for days away like a "dayvan". I do intend to customise the inside with a bed ect for weekenders but not make it a camper.

Is it hard to find an insurance company that will insure a van for private use, will I be asked any questions about its uses and what should I say or rather avoid saying that may get me refused insurance, I would be happy to have a limited milage policy, I have a clean licence and am over 50 years old. Any advice, recomendations or ideas would be most welcome, Many thanks.

Rog :)

Hello there from what some people have said you need to try Adrian flux (i think that's how you spell his surname) what do you do for a living if you don't mind me asking.

If your just toing and froing from a permanent place of work, but not carrying tools you should be able to get private insurance (with a bit of hastle) but if your adding extra passenger seats and fitting a cooker you will have bother, here's a link for you http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/?rw.cm=GOOG ... 3godLHXxbg give him a call and tell him what your planning and see what he comes up with

Thanks Olly.

I have used Flux in the past to insure yanks and hybrid land-rovers, they will cover most things but at a price, then again if all else fails it's worth the extra :D

I have never used them myself, got the impression he was supposed to be competitive from some of the posts on here that's all, regarding the insurance for my van i used to be self employed but have kept up the commercial insurance as it was easier but not sure as to how the price compares as mines a 350.

Yea I do have some options I was told the Farmers union will do a good deal if you can get it but I think the first thing is to be honest and have a ring round once I get a van, I will want to carry my bike on the odd trip but I will avoid saying that because they will think I am into the race scene and that always carries a loading on motor insurance. :(

Will be dead easy to get social/domestic/pleasure cover, most of the big car insurers will quote you.
The hard bit is trying to get hire & reward insurance AND being 21 :|

I'm struggling to find insurance myself.
I'm 39, 5 years no claims etc... BUT, my van is a 160 with a load of seats in it. It used to be a minibus for the NHS but I want it as my car. I want 4 seats and the rest out of it but the companies are saying I'm modifying it and wont cover me.
The seats are the type that move and fix in a track so I cant figure out how I'm modding it if the seats are removable anyway.
I'l give farmers union and flux a try but are there any other decent companies to try?
