I have been told; if you hear turbo whistle, in any case, it`s broken or assembled wrong :?

May affect performance if the ECU is confussed

Ahaa, in which case it has never been connected in the camper and is a red herring! Not the problem then.

The turbo must be working if it's boosting on the gauge though? And if the sensor and hence ECU was seeing that boost and putting in the right fuel but the air wasn't getting to the engine for some reason then i'd see a sh!t load of black smoke would I not?

The flexible silicone hose at the inlet was definately inflating when the engine revved up.

I'm starting to suspect this slipped belt scenario more now, but would a whole tooth not bring up the fault light? The ECU has a crank sensor and a sensor in the pump so if they were misaligned would the EPIC not see it?

Maybe Camshaaft only slipped. But pump and crank kept in phase
Happened to me. But on an older di, no ecu's stuff.

im familiar with that senario

sounds like something has come off or is splitting under pressure..

the engine note changing and power dropping is normally red light territory :?

I've checked all the boost hoses and they look fine, if it was bleeding off that much boost would it not register on the gauge?

Like you say, still can't understand the red light of death not coming on.

maybe a blockage of some type then :?:

did you use the turbo exhaust system that came with the engine

my old non turbo mk3 used to lose power and make a louder than normal diesel noise when the fuel filter unions came loose and let air in.

you could try checking that out out and re bleeding the injectors.

hopefully somethings just worked loose.

good luck

Think it's got me this one :?
If it's showing .8 Bar at the guage then the manifold is pressurising and there's enough exhaust gas to drive the compressor so it can't all be escaping
Clutching at straws only things I can think of is that either a valve isn't closing properly or the manifold gasket is leaking and the EPIC is increasing the boost to compensate, the cam timing has slipped or most of the boost is escaping through the egr back to the exhaust manifold. (where are you measuring boost from?)

Hope you sort it soon anyhow mate :)

Measuring boost at the takeoff point just after the EGR flap. Same place the EPIC is measuring it.

Did notice the insides of EGR and metal boost pipe were gunged up with 'coal' so worth a clean of all that side of things I reckon, but can't see that being the problem.

If the EPIC boost sensor was kaput it would exhibit these symptoms I reckon, I know it thinks it's working because it faults if you unplug it, but it may not be giving the right signal?

Check the timing first though, i'll do the new cambelt at the same time.

Mine does not, no Tranny, no Volvo, and never heard decent whistle other than broken TBO. (Seen few opened TBO´s) it´s running YES but it is craked OR changeing profile of the "box"

And yes, there have been prrrrrressures in my vehicles

Sory this darn, mis understanded language.

I dont' think that the whistle is a parameter of much importance. it is dependent on the intake filter, air box, silencer , etcc
Even the latest BMW can be heard whistling when accelerating, although its a fine noise.
If he has pressure above atmospheric in the inlet manifold, then most probable the problem comes from the fueling, or timing systems.
I point to the timing, since he hadn't changed it since the swap. Or faulty tensioner!

Has been considering this for a long time: What are the advantages of using timing belt instead of chains? Maybe to give the engine a service (water pump etc) when required to change belt?????

the whistling is the wastgate allowing exhaust to bypass the turbine, perfectly normal to hear some :D

Noup. :( Lower pressure whistling is not accept, it is f***ed, if it whistle from start to stop, and I mean lower rews to higer rews, when accselerated.
