Whats the correct procedure then?
Should I just start it with the lpg switch on and then the van will switch from petrol to lpg when it can?
Or should you start it on petrol and then when warmed up press the lpg switch and it will switch onto lpg?
What should the green light under the lpg guage be doing? Staying on or flashing?
]One other thought I have just had is the lpg guage shows full , as high as it can go, maybe the sender or the guage is faulty and there is no lpg in tank?? Is there a way to check the sender and guage?
Sorry for all the questions

I always start/leave the LPG on (light on the switch) and it will move over to LPG when it good and ready, about 45 secs i suppose.
As far as i can tell, the flashing green light (which is under the LPG tank gauge, which has replaced the TEMP gauge) is a sign that the LPG is on call and awaiting (auto) switch over once temp is reached.
You ( i can anyway..) hear a relay or similar, click over (some times twice) and green then stays permanently on.
If you worry about LPG guage being faulty, why don't you just fill it right up to check

It will go back to petrol automatically when LPG runs out. I get a miserable 150 miles from a tank (but have a leak to sort) so thats a starting point of expected milage from a tank full.
A word of caution - my petrol tank has shown over 1/4 full, and still run out of petrol..
