Are you going to be painting or galvanising the new body?

hi Paul ill just be painting it blue seems to be my trade mark this is 3rd body totallr build and all been blue so white and blue its going as to yellow and blue of my mk6

TODAY didnt do much been busy
but got 40x40 box for crossmembers so notched 40x40 sguares out of
c channel to leave box level with top of c channel

i think its easier to show a pic than explain
then box will drop in nice

done the front then ive done the back before it beavers off
then tack side rails in place

thats all ive got done today tomorrow try and get very back one and angle
to suppart ramps when loading and angles cut on side rails ready to weld

I like your build because the body will not be depending on welding to hold the weight, but your keeping the transvrse chanels as one piece along the width of the van
And nice welding too
and just a sugestion: when you paint it, I sugesst using a zinc and lead rich paint, as a primer, we have a product here of a local company called Galvacoat and its very good.

How did you cut those squares out of chanel for the box??

plasmer cutter?? or just angle grind down?? then what about the bottom cut?? or have u bent it over??

all looks quality though

has your recovery work picked up?? as last time i asked you said you just did it sort of part time so just wondered if you had gne into it fulltime???

Hi mate just used a 1mm cutting disc to cut channel and bottom cant afford plasma cutters
work was very quite end of last year and thought it would be really bad this year but been really busy with truck
but work for about 6 garages round my area and lots of lads who repair bumped cars so happy really

80x40 box and welded inch angle to carry ramps

hi bought channel from a local body builders its proper stuff they use for bodies 5x2 channel they do different depths and thickness this is 3 mm the day job repair,paint buysell cars etc lol

yes i grind a section around were i weld to get rid of galv the next few days should see it some were near for sheets i hope

yes to weld galvinized steel you must grind off the coating for welding, else it would burn the zinc coating and it would not allow the co2 gas to shield the weld pool from oxidizing.
But better off welding ungalvinized steel if you can. maybe ARTCARCOM can explain more.

cut c channel at rear to take my 80 x 40 box with inch angle welded to it

centralized my 80x40 box then clamped

cut little l shapes out of side rails for the over lap of angle for more support

and cut my angle my theary place both pieces together on your angle what ever the
gap half and cut that half measurement of each side then its somewhere near
if anyone has an easier way please let me know because i struggle with angles this
is only way i find works
