You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Sorry mate just come back from another thread
You know the way you lock all the cogs with pins/dowls (or in my case drill bits of the right size) as if your doing the timing belt change :?:
Well double check this first and if all ok you can slacken the pump pulley from the front and adjust it slightly  I would imagine moving the bolts anticlockwise (while the bolts are slack) will retard the timing and clockwise will advance the timing :D
But I do have concerns about your no.4 cylinder from what you've just said :(
And the pump could be ****** from what you said also  :!:

That's not how you adjust the timing that's how you tighten the belt, if you move the pulley back you will have a slack belt!

NO :!: Don't adjust or move the the pulley  :!:

The bolt holes for the pump are slotted :!: and when they are slack you can move them (the pump) without moving the pulley :D

If the pin is in you shouldn't be able to move the pump only the pulley. There is no adjsutment on this at all other than to tension the belt!

Taking the pin out of course.

Well I'm not here to argue with you  As you are absolutely correct. However it has been mentioned a few times on this forum, that you can adjust the timing and this is the only way I can think it can possibly be done  :!:
And if my memory serves me right, I also remember someone mentioning moving the pulley by a notch also  But somehow I think this would be too much :!:

I completly agree with you and as it had been a while since I done a Di cambelt I didn't say anything to all the people that were talking about adjusting the pump like that. But when I did mine the other week and then 100ps_drw_hicubes I had a play and there was no adjustment possible.
