I love my mk7...BUT I have discovered a really anoying 'feature' the cabin/loading area light switch.

Although its the same switch used in other transits and lots or other makes/models i.e. switch forward=lights on, switch middle=lights on when doors open, switch back=lights off, Ford have decided to wire the switch differently so now switch forward=lights on, switch middle=lights on when doors open and switch back ALSO =lights on when doors open, they are on a 30 min timer however when i'm of camping or at a festival and in and out of the rear compartmet the lights are going to be on a great deal of the time which could lead to at least a low battery if not a dead one this is so stupid...if it not broke...

but it also means that you can't leave the cab lights on and flatten ther battery cos even when they are 'ON' they will switch off after 30 or so mins

Interesting. I did wonder how that would work, but I decided I would have to wait for the new van to find out. The dealer just can't answer my awkward questions - on my first ever demonstration of the Mk7, they were keen to show me the cupholders! My Mk5 is perfect in this regard - usual cab light switch as above, separate switch on dash for nice, bright dome light in rear. True, I could leave it on and drain the battery but it hasn't happened yet. Saving grace is that I ordered the new van with the rear auxiliary power point, so I can easily plug in a work light. Also, that selection automatically adds the twin batteries on the FWD models, so belt and braces ...

I have a MK5 Luton & a Mk7 Luton. The new one is so much more refined and comfortable. i love it.
However my Mk5 is 11 years old, a bit rusty and not very smooth, but it always works, passed it's MOt no problem and has NEVER let me down.
I do wonder if the MK7 will be around at 11 years of age or will the repairs just get too expensive..time will tell.

That's what worries me. When I started my long journey with the Mk5, I figured that if I spec'd it with minimum complexity (no turbo, no PAS, etc.) and looked after it, it would last 10 years and then succumb to the inevitable Transit rust. Now at 12 years, it seems as if it will go on for ever, although I may be living on borrowed time. I am prepared to be pleasantly surprised by a new Mk7, but as you say, time will tell.

The only annoying thing on my MK7 so far is the gear shift gaitor. Its held in with a plastic frame that has snapped so it keeps popping out & looks rough. Tried online but can't find any so will have to go to Ford dealer... unless anyone else knows where I can get one.. cheers.

I think the most annoying thing on mine - after not having ANY form of central locking - is the information panel on the dash. This gives all sorts of useful info, such as trip & total mileage, MPG, distance to empty, etc. Except - I can't read it! :(
The contrast between the writing & background is so poor I have to get my eyes right down by the dash to see what it's saying - hard to do when you're driving!
Now before you all say it's my eyes, (well they are getting a bit old now), I can read the very similar info panel in my wife's Getz with no problem at all.
How stupid of Ford to go to the trouble of providing all this info that you can't read.
BTW dealer says it can't be altered.

Is there no viewing angle or 'contrast' adjustment? Someone here will know. The only thing I could find out about the Mk7 from my dealer was how good the cupholders are. The detailed info came from this Forum - useful stuff like gearbox ratios, code readers, etc.
