traction control?

I went to a site today that was a quite muddy wet field, now i was fully loaded and sort of knew i would slip and slide and

it would be a struggle but whilst all this spinning grip spin was going on not once did the traction control cut in ! Or i

need to touch the button so im guessing its not working properly! Will this effect anything else as im not particually

bothered about it? Actually was quite helpfull as the power guys for the festival had a sphincter which they were struggling

with as there traction kept cutting in even when switched off and cutting power the 115 dropside we had used to

flash its button just approaching wet grass

Traction control only works below (i think) about 20mph

I researched this for the Mk7 where BTCS is now standard kit, as a part of the ESP:

The Haynes manual for the Mk6 says it is an option and operates up to approximately 30mph. Presumably you were not driving across the wet grass faster than that?

TBH it bit of a gimmick on them, doesnt really do a lot, if the switch was flashing when it was spinning then its working as it should be, but it could have been where its applying the rear brakes independantly, it was doing it quick enough to not put the light on

Easy way to tell if its working is to jack the back wheels up (both) drive it upto 15-20 mph and see if it put on the brakes

i was below 30! although the wheels might not have been at some stages as i say im not to fussed about it just want

Isn't the traction control part of the same system as the ABS?

Yes, it uses the wheel speed sensors and the EBD, ABS, BTC, ESP systems are all interlinked.

hmmm i will have to investigate then I will do the abs test plus what Coconut suggested and im sure i will be on another field soon, no doubt wet with our lovely summer

I think (but dont quote me on this ) if the traction control fails the ABS will still work, but like you say, check it in a muddy field
