Mk1 breather pipe connector part?

Postby Synthia11 » Mon Sep 07, 2009 12:52 pm

Hello, new member so no pictures yet I'm afraid.
I have a 1974 Mk1 1700cc camper with V4 engine & weber single carburettor.
The oil filler cap from the right hand rocker cover has a breather pipe which connects it to the air filter.
The left hand rocker cover has a breather pipe which connects to a part which is between the carburettor and the adaptor.
(I believe the adaptor is there to slightly move the carburettor back to get it out of the way of the distributer cap)
The problem I have is that this part, that the breather pipe connects to, is cracked and allowing air into the carburettor so the engine is stalling.
The part has the same profile as the adaptor and the bottom of the carb, is about 1.5cm deep and has a tube going in to it that the breather pipe connects to.
Does anybody know what this part is called and if it is possible to still get one?
Your help would be much appreciated.

May the V4s be with you.

Hello
Some people call the part, the insulator block, because as well as holding the breather pipe it is designed to stop the cab picking up heat from the inlet manifold.
If you take it off and clean it with methylated spirits you can repair it with something like 'platic metal'.When you refit it don't tighten the bolts holding the carburettor too tight as that is what cracks them.

I think travlin kid should post some pictures of his transit.I hear its a MK1 with a custom paint job,big wheels and a V8.
Its took him nearly a year to build.

It would have been quicker but he ran out of glue.
Airfix only put a small tube in the kits these days.
