Transit cosworth flywheel/ clutch info

Postby cossierevhead » Thu Sep 10, 2009 6:07 pm

Eventually got round to takin standard engine out o my van and was hopin to use the flywheel and clutch from the dohc 2.0 on my cosworth engine but flywheel has 6 bolt fixin instead of cosworth 9 bolt fixin, so am now thinkin of using cosworth flywheel and clutch as the clutch fits on transit gearbox splines, the van is a V reg 2.0 dohc, the cosworth flywheel is slightly bigger than the transit one so wich starter etc would i use, any info would be great, cheers

what i did was cossy flywheel and clutch on the tranny DOHC box (mine was a mk6 but there cant be much difference) - the inside of the bellhousing needed a tiny bit of grinding to stop it jamming on the webs :D

but the starter - ive not sorted yet i cant remmeber which one i used but it only picks up on 1 bolt i plan to make an adapter bracket to hold in place properly - but we dont really use the cossy van much so we havent got round to it yet :D

ive just been readin your progress reports on ur mk6 cossie van Luke and you said you had to use washers to space somethin out on flywheel???? what was that for? so if i use cosworth flywheel and clutch, grind a bit off inside of gearbox then it should mate up ok? cheers for ur help buddy

My clutch is a cable operated, not hydraulic, will the transit release bearin come far enough forward to work the cosworth clutch? or will the clutch arm on transit box need space forward? 8)

hmmmm ............ cant remember what i spaced out with washers it might have been to take account of the plate inbetween the bellhousing and block without actually fitting it :D

i'd forgot yours will be cable - proberbly the best thing to do would be to try it - but you will know before you do that the bolt pitch is identical - just see how far the release arm moves and if it needs it mod it - mabe even get another arm and weld the centre bit on top of the other arm so the bearing fits in the mount but is just further forward - just an easy way of doing it  but i'd try it on 1st :D

anyway how about a progress report ......... WITH PICS

i was gona make a set of mounts but got told to get pinto mk3 or 4 mounts and mount bracket to bolt onto body, anybody know? ive got all the metal to make mounts and got huge welder lol. as for flywheel i think the pinto has a 6 bolt crank instead of 9 bolt cossie crank where flywheel bolts on, just gona use cossie flywheel and clutch and modify gearbox with a grinder so flywheel clears, 2mrws job lol :D :D :D :D :D

just use mk3/4 pinto mounts but you'll need the chassis part to fit too :D not strait forward but the easyest way imo

also why not use a transit Di mt75 and a pinto adapterplate and clutch flywheel etc. - thats the way i'd do it over a dohc box :D
