Recommend me a Diff!

Postby Anton2k3 » Thu Nov 19, 2009 3:41 pm

Hey guys,

I know I know, i'm posting a lot of questions at the moment, but I promise I'm nearly done! So as you probably all know by now, done a mk5 EPIC td into a mk3 pinto. Now, as the previous van was a petrol, the diff I think is wrong for the diesel engine, as i'm doing around 3200 rpm at 70mph. Can someone advise me a diff which will fit my axle, and take the rev's down to a more reasonable level?

Also, I have a SVO clutch on the van, and my local parts trader was unable to supply me with a clutch, where is a good place to get one from?

Thanks,

Anton

5 stud?

You want a 4.11 or 3.9

I know that LUK make the larger SVO clutch as do others (I dont think QH do)

hey matt,

yea found a supplier for the clutch, they're quoting for on which is circa. 270mm, think thats the right one.

Not sure which diff I would need, how do I work out what rpm I would be doing at 70 with each of those?

Do you have a spare diff?!

p.s yea 5 stud.

Ta,

Anton

Do I look like a parts place?? :?: YES?? bugger wrong question!

Actually I do but not for a mk3 and not in those ratios.

www.mintylamb.com has a gear calculator on it. The top ratio on the gearbox will be 0.82 so stick that in the 4th gear space and type in the diff ratios to see how the revs etc affect the speed you probably have a 4.56 at the moment but it could be a 5.14

Is the clutch complete and new, with thrust bearing, and pressure plate?

Can you confirm the size of the clutch just so i can be sure its the right one?

And, is the diff from a mk3, and how can I check its compatible with my axle?

Ta,

Anton

a 3.89 diff for a transit will only go in a mk1/2/3 5 stud axle

Surely there is virtually no difference between a 3.89
and a 3.9?

I'll pm tonight or details.
