solenoid ?

Postby Trekker » Wed May 31, 2006 11:08 pm

My transit 190 LWB h/t would not start yesterday I thought battery was dead flat as there was nothing not a click just dead.Checked battery it was well up, I ended up hitting starter motor and solenoid with hammer
then tried starting up which was perfect. No problems after that starting up perfectly. This morning ok but then this after noon another non start after another belt it worked again.
Can anybody tell me anything about this ,is my solenoid on its way out it can't be starter motor as it works ok the solenoid is part of the starter motor on mine does that mean I have to buy a new one complete?
any answers appreciated

these would usually be replaced as a complete unit but some auto electrics shops repair them and you may get a soleniod from them or get them to overhaul it for you

good luck

beforw going out to buy one, take yours off (complete with solenoid) and check to see if the solenoid is sticking. I opened up my sticky solenoid to find it was full of thick residue. cleaned it out and its been fine since :D

It was sticky gunk like that that stopped my central locking solonoid working too - a good clean, and regrease and it has been perfect since too.
