another vosa thread

Postby valeterjack » Fri Nov 27, 2009 8:51 am

hi folks my wife got stopped with vosa yesterday    and got a prohibition order on my van for a prop centre bearing
now my van just past a mot a month ago without that being advised :x :x so obviosly never thought about it is this part of the mot or not
i cant blame vosa for doing there job and i am glad it has been brought to my attention but on inspecting it myself i relise it is completely knackered ( i;e no rubber left) so i feel it should have failed a test i am very particular on saftey aspects with my van as my wife and kids travel in it often having just replaced all the brakes and steering components (the lot)and not being told about a 50 quid bearing just boils my piss a bit
any thoughts on this

it aslo gose on the mot tested opin on exsive play

if it was advised its worth doing after mot in my eyes

lucky it passed my one has just failed on loads :(

vosa could hve been a little nicer tho atleast it is moted and taxed insured etc unlike alot of cars on the road!

had center bearing go on my works van it was so noisy i complained about it for weeks!!
it went on motorway thought id run over spare wheel!! stopped had a look no rubber and remains of bearing, prop just hanging!!!
got fitter out had to remove remains of prop got towed back to yard
another van had same noise told driver he said itll be ok,, it went on trunk rd after about 30 mls got fitter out luckilly only 1 mle from another yard he couldnt go forward but would go backwards !!
he was told to reverse it to yard,,,,,,, they removed the remains when he arived !!!
true story
after that all the flleet was checked

if it had been reported as exessive play on mot advisory i would have without a doubt replaced it
however when i asked if there was anything needing further attention was told no had been extra strict on it    cause i carry wife and kids
would not mind as much but i work at the dealership in st boswells where it was tested
should have known better not the first f*@k up thats came out of there on my vehicles

i had a mate who use to do mot, and he reakons, that they are worthless as all they got to say it it was road worthy when it was in here, must of happened after he left, its liek the guys who decat stuff when passed mot and put it back on for it, or swap tyres around to pass,

what you got to remember is that no mot is on average a £30 fine, not what you want to hear, but that is how it goes, i took my car for mot the other day, it failed on emmision and ball joint, even the bloke who was doing it said they are only good for about 3 months if your lucky

Don't even look at the prop shaft on the MOT, that's what servicing is for.

then your techs should be beaten
as said it is not a mot item so would not have been tested but should allways be checked in a service if the mechanic knows transits then he would of checked it , if he doesnt then he should not be servicing them

Then surely if your going to have a service you simply ask what items on the vehicle are going to be serviced and will the the running gear be checked out, thats what I do, and yes it does cost a few bob more but at least you know the state of play

Better still to find a mechanic who not only can be trusted but who does a proper job of maintaining your vehicle ,secret is to spot potential problems and rectify .I suppose i am very lucky my mechanic picks up my van using the key he keeps permanently i provide him with a list of jobs i know need to be done using the parts that i mainly scource and are in the van .He completes these jobs and generally knows the van and checks things over as a matter of course he drops van back off and generally charges approx £70 per day absolute maximum of £100 and that would be possibly 9am untill 10pm maybe breaking off to do other odd jobs for his other customers .I feel doubly fortunate in that my mechanic is not just a bolt off bolt on merchant he actually strips things down and repairs often manufacturing things in the process.
