will add most of the vans from 1990 with the 76/70ps engines will do 80-85mph but can a while to ge there and will be screaming.luton vans will do 60-70mph depending on engine power....marve might be a idea to check to make sure you have full throttle on the pump as cable might need adjusting or the engine might have had the pump turned down a bit from a previouse owner.

my mk 5 70 ps will do top speed of 80
i normally plod along 55/60 any more then that and its screaming too much for my liking.
i pull off in second and am thinking of bigger tyres on the back too improve gearing altho speedo
will be inaccurate.

I take great pride in doing 55-60mph tops and take comfort in the fact that 50mph is my speed limit anyway on a national speed limit 'A' road as I'm a class 7 190 tipper. I like to wind up the 1.1 litre kids, the executives in their Beamers and the couriers in their Sprinters, although that said I am a little more sympathetic to the couriers. I watch in horror as they overtake at 80mph at the blind turns on the right hand turning space chevrons only to have me catch up with them 12 miles later in the congested 40mph zone  .

60mph is the speed limit - I wouldn't worry about it.

seems to be 2 distinct types of bad driver regarding speed obviously the typical white van man racing about like a lunatic not caring about other road users undertaking - swapping lanes frequently etc etc etc but the opposite type also annoy me 27mph in a 30 zone 48 mph on motorway .Dont know which i hate most .

Funny, I didn't see you behind me, I would have sped up. Seriously 27 in 40 zones annoys the crap out if me too. What I especially hate is when your fully loaded going up a hill and need the revs the car driver slows down whilst doing their hair or whatnot and then accelerate away towards the peak of the hill leaving you like a muppet doing 20mph up a hill with a 2 tonne trailer on a national speed limit road. Always speed up for lorries getting their speed up for the incline!

So Marve what happened to your fan? It fell off? How'd that happen? Usually you can just whack a 32mm fan spanner with a hammer and it'll eventually come loose after repeated frustrating attempts.

So is their no projecting threaded bit on the waterpump pulley? - Has it snapped? Why not fit a rad with an electric fan off a BOB scorpio or something instead or are you going to replace the waterpump.

even witha governor it shouldn;t be reving it's tits off at 60 :(

you need a gearbox or diff swap... or both

used to have an D reg tranny years ago - was the one I passed my test in actually (1999)

after an engine and gearbox swap, and then a backaxle swap.... we totaly randomly (and luckaly) ended up with a really good combination, used to do 115 flat out ;) (according to the sat nav) - on a private road of course ;)

To change your revs on a transit you can only change the back axle as the gearbox are all the same(MT75)there is a small change in the ratio spread (wide ratio and normal)which is basical a lower first and second gear...
Birdy the diffrent van drivers..The fast one has no ponits on there licence and dont care less...The one going slower has lots of points on there licence...

your ratios are the same as mine but mine tops out at 85 so I think you may have other issues to deal with, at 60 mine sounds like its revving hard but I dont have a rev counter so dont know what the revs are, sounds like the speedo may be giving a false reading

made me feel a bit better i will try and get these mondeo clocks fitted that i have and see what she is revving to

my clocks dont have the wire for the rev counter my alternator has two wires on the side and a fat red one on the top
am i right in thinking its the black and grey wire i need to splice into and that its number 8 i need to put the wire into behind the rev counter
cheers

If you don't have a hig spec loom, just run a wire from the middle contact of the alternator.

You can see the missing pins on your Transit clocks, I think its pin 8,9, 11 or 13 from memory.
