Mk3 Transit Speedo Pics

i'm in essex...near colchester.

i haven't taken the surround and cluster off yet...will the connection on the back be the same for tacho, speedo, mk3, mk4 etc? or are they all different...will i need to connect it all up myself, or is it one simple plug? <crosses fingers>

i'm gonna trawl ebay again...see if i can find a mk4 setup.

If you can make it to the meet at the A127 diner (Monday 14th) )there is a link at the top of the page) I should be there, and I can bring a complete working mk5 tachograph unit - and we can see if that works there and then? A working speedo is not part of the MoT test...

The other thing is "Captain Hook" and AlanN are both around that area and are likely to have a mk3/4 dash (might be worth a PM...)

I used to have a mk3 bus with a tacho cable driven but replaced it with the standard mk3 speedo if you can find one you will need the complete speedo assy I seem to remember everything swops over ok but it was some time ago and cant remember exactly (old age )I think you need to change part of the surround for the standard mk3 one.

hi pal have you tried putting a paper tach disc in some wont work unless there is a chart in also..got to be locked properly before it works,,,

I haven't treid it with a disc in the tacho...no. Is that really the case?

Thanks for all your help on this...if i can't get anything organised by the 14th i may well meet at the diner for a spot of problem solving...thanks for the offer.

I'm trying to get that speedo from ebay. we'll see how that goes.

you,ll need clocks....suround,,,,cluster support.(as are diffrent)...speedo cable...bulbs (or check before fitting back)....you,ll see the wireing is simple when tacho removed just one wire needs cutting ,,,,,,

so long as you have a basic DIY mentality its not a hard job at all. took me about 1 1/2 hours only once i had all the parts. yours is the same as the one i had. you need to remove the facia(4 screws) tacho unit complete with bracket(4 screws)and unplug the wiring loom where it splits into two. also if you can unplug the main wire that plugs directly into the back of the tacho( or cut it if you cant). underneath, you have a sender unit in place of the speedo cable with the other end of the main tacho wire attached. remove this and replace with a speedo cable.

looks like a mk2 to me...but then again...i don't know much about 'em!

is the major difference the connection? or the design?

if its good i'll get this today.

theres quite a few posts on how to change over to this type...should be ok?

Unfortunately thats a petrol one!

The speedo will work, but the revcounter definitely wont!

You will also need the plugs from the original mk5/mondeo loom

If you can find a set of cable driven TD ones with the wiring tails they can be made to work with a little wiring - but you would need to modify the speedo surround for them to look right.

Im guessing you have checked that the speedo cable (if thats what is has) is connected at both ends and is spinning at the dashboard end while you are moving?
