Lucas Epic Pump Swap

Postby roadster2 » Sun Dec 06, 2009 8:45 am

Hi ,

I've bought a 1993 Transit , 85 PS with a broken Fuelpump(Lucas Epic) and a 1997 complete Engine for Spareparts.

I've fitted the 1997 fuelpump on my 1993 Transit , but it wont start, do I need the 1997 ECU to get it started? Do I have to use the key transponder aswell for the PATS or is that a different system?

Thanks , a newbie Transit(Non  )Driver

pull the loom off the back of epic pump and find the live that swiches on with ign (with multimeter) and wire it strait to pump fuel cut off selinoid, (has it got the immobilsor type pump) if so take the back plate off first.

1993 will be non PATS

1997 will be PATS - I dont think the 2 lucas pumps are compatable, also if it is late 1997 your injectors wont be compatable with the pump either...

HOWEVER - has the donor engine also got a lucas pump or is it a bosch one?

Both engines are run by Lucas Epic pumps (63 KW 2,5 Turbodiesel)

I bought the 93 Nugget van with broken FuelPump and had the "clever" Idea to buy this 97 donor engine to fit its Lucas Pump on my 93 Transit

I did not buy the 97 ECU with it .

If I can bypass the pump fuel cut off solinoid to get the pump working , do I have to exchange my 93 Injectors for the 97 ones?

Thanks for your Answers and Help !! As soon as the Transit is driving , I'll hop over and bring some Belgian Beers to the Transit Meeting 8)

the cut of solenoids in the pumps are different types, if you can swap them over you might get a working pump...

and yes you would need to swap injectors

this might help.
but if i remember right the early ecu has less pins than the late 97-on and might not run that 97 pump.??

The pumps ARE not compatible.
If u have 1997 engine, it must have pumps form 1995-2000. Otherwise it will not work.

No! He needs a pump that matches the van not the engine, the sensors off t

A '97 has an immobiliser and a different ECU to his van, it wont run on the earlier ecu which doesnt have an immobiliser.

To fit a complete '97 injection pump the whole under dash loom would need to be swapped along with the ecu to get the immobiliser. Also pumps from 95 - 97 and 97-2000 are different.
