12 Month Old 17k miles yet new Discs?

Postby Npbrum » Tue Dec 22, 2009 1:23 pm

Hi

I have a 12 month Old Transit SWB 2.2D 110.
Ford have told me i need new front Pads and also that my Discs are lipped?
They say this is common, and going to cost £400.00, also MPG is only around 21 to the gallon.
Any suggestions would be usefull, this is the first transit I have owned for the business, the van does not carry big heavy loads
but does approx 80% miles around town.
Thanks

Nige.

80% around town = lots of braking and stop start, thats why yer brakes are done and fuel consumption is poor, whats the mileage, engine may still be tight consumption may improve with higher mileage.

You may need pads at that mileage if on stop start work, but i doubt discs will need doing.......
Them being "lipped" is not an issue, their measured thickness dictates when they are replaced, shouldn`t be below minimum after 1 set of pads :o

you dont say if they told you to change the discs though,,,, you said that they rekon you needed new pads, and that the discs are lipped.... did they say to change them too?? and if they are charging you £400 to change pads then i feel you are being fleeced,, lol.
