Clutch biting point adjustment?

Postby Anton2k3 » Tue Dec 22, 2009 2:15 pm

Hey guys,

Just replaced the SVO clutch on my transit. However, as before the change, the biting point is very close to the bottom of the pedal. I thought a new clutch would cure this. Is this normal? Can i adjust it al all, could it be the self adjuster?

Ta,

Anton

you are correct sorry i asume that having a ratchet if you lift the clutch pedal up towards the steering wheel then this will releast the ratchet arm and re set it to the correct position

a new clutch will have a bighting point near floor and as it wears the point comes up

new clutch plate thick so more movement needed to release from pressure plate , old clutch thin so less movement

The bite point will be where you, or the ratchet, adjust it to.
You will correct it throughout the life of the clutch plate.

99.9999% of clutch queries on here are about a dragging clutch/difficulty in engaging first gear etc, most are caused by a badly adjusted clutch release mechanism. Makes you wonder just how many good clutches have been binned thru' ignorance.

I removed and inspected the old clutch a month ago, and decided it needed renewing, was almost down to rivets, so no clutch wasted here. I was merely enquiring about biting points.
