Major electrical fault on 55 Plate

Hi Happy new year to all.
I am new to this forum,but desperate for some help. I have a 55 plate 2.5dti transit. The problem iam having is that the other day my sidelights would not switch off even with the fuse out. Took out the switch as well but they still stayed on!. Any way left the van for an hour or two thinking that i will fix it later. my battery then went flat, so i got a jump start then as the van started the sidelights wnet Off. I thought no more about till to day getting the van ready for work tomorrow and found that the side lights didnt work at all nor does the Hazzards or indicators, the fuse was blown in the indicators replaced it but it blew again. Why should this suddenly happen and how do i rectify this ASAP as need the van on the road for monday morning Please help if you can

id check the wiring loom behind the n/s headlight first for signs of chafing and shorting out first i had the same problem mate if not check for signs of the wiring loom shorting out elsewhere on the van

Hi guys checked out wiring under and around n/s Headlight every thing seems intact there was one wire that goes to the washer bottle that was maybe touching the body but everything else seems OK .What do you suggest next?

id check as much of the wiring loom as you can for signs of wear / chafing / rubbing and shorting out this happened to me and all sorts of wierd things was happening !

Iam totaly new to transits is most of the harness in the engine bay or through the back Sorry about this but i dont have a clue where to start.I will have a check in the bay first then just follow as much as i can. Could the rear light cluster have any thing todo with it?.I mean its strange that the sidelights wouldnt turn off at all.

well mines a 2002 model and the wiring loom is under the bonet and obvisously behing the dash also runs either side at head height in the back only adive i can give you is to look for signs of it rubbing somewhere ? i may be wrong but yr problem sounds like summats shorting out ?

Hi quick update
With the lights switched off indicators and hazzards work But the ABS Light is on so is the Traction control switch (cant put it off).
When i go to put the lights on the fuse blows. So its got to be a short in one of the lights Yes?
If so i take it it will just be a case of tracing the fault / short or could it be the light switch?

fuse no 224 in the glove box the 20 amp one. This only started after i had checked all the wiring in the engine bay and the wireing loom some it mus be a short there but i also to out the connection for the light switch it self so it could be that

No i says in the manual head light switch

So does this mean that the Switch is at fault or could it be the power going to the switch?

not sure mate to me sounds like again the sidelight wires are shorting somewhere just a case of findind the problem im afraid

OK mate thanks for the help i will just have to try and find the short somewhere. Will give it a go later as hands are numb must be minus 3 out there.
If you have any other ideas thaughts let me know
