Help needed with fitting mk3 mondeo interior handles to conn

Postby mattvik30 » Wed Jan 06, 2010 5:32 pm

I have been trying to fit my brushed alloy mk3 mondeo interior door handles today. I have got as far as removing the cable for the central locking, but i have a few questions, as i know a few guys like rumblebee on here have fitted these in the past. My questions are:

Do i need to use the mk3 mondeo cable or the connect one?

If the connect cable how do i remove it from the handle. I have put the handle in the lock position and lifted the red clip, but can see how it is removed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Matt

Hi did this at the weekend so quite fresh in my mind. Just use the connect cable. Can you see the metal ball at the end of the cable, like on a bike brake. I just got a screw driver under the cable and pull upwards( image the handel still in the door pull up towards the window) Hope thats clear. I found it easier to remove the handel for the door which makes the cable lose and easier to remove.
Took quite a long time cutting and sanding of the plasic handel housing to make it fit.. But like all things once the first ones done the second takes half the time.

Thanks for the reply Nik, When you say get a screwdriver under the cable and pull up....do you mean at the handle end with the red clip? as i have lifted that up but its still fixed. Also to remove the handle from the door to give it more play. Is the handle just stuck on the door after removing the screw? As it seems pretty well stuck on if so. Just thought i would check so that i dont break anything!!! :( I noticed on an older thread that rumblebee fitted his by cutting the spindle...Itake it you did not do this?

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

if i remember correctly the original connect handle is sort of cliped to the door at one end so you just prise it off once screw out - i think its best to have the lock halfway between locked and unlocked to remove the lock cable - be careful not too kink it though as it wont lock properly (speaking from experience) - there is major chopping to do to the mondeo handle - took me ages of going forward and backwards

This is what i did
1. remove earth for battery ( i have electric mirrors/windows )
2. Unscrew the handel case screw and then remove the case.
3. Door handle screw and handel, poke a small screwdrive into the a small slot to remove the handle inner.
4. Gently work out the electric window switch and unclip wires.
5. Remove rubber knob from powered mirrors and pull up. (think thats what i did) unclip.
6. Unscrew door card and lift towards up then upwards.
7. Then again gently press behind the handle case, should just pop off, plasic split clip(where the first screw screws into ) holds it into place.
8. The handle should just hang by the door on the cable, put into lock mode, lift up a small plastic clip, then pull the cable upwards.
9. Trim case down ( mine where from the back door ) so not sure if this is needed with the front handles of a MK3 Mon. I had to screw the case in place.
10. Put back again.

I would like to thank poormansporche for sending me the handles 8)

cheers Nick, thats me got a good idea of what needs to be done. Is there a difference between the front and rear handles, as i had the full set but sold 2 to stephenferguson on this forum. I had a quick look, but they seemed the same.

tomorrow hopefully i will get my handles fitted and the fiesta st steering wheel.......lets wait and see!

Thinking on, You need you code for the radio, if its a factory fitted unit. As removing the battery requires the code....again. Reset your time also, if like my clock it driffs out by about 5mins every few months..

Hey, after I got the door card off and unclipped the cable from the back off the handle. I just cut off the pin holding the handle together at the base of it (see pic) and pulled the pin upwards and out. Disasselmbled the plastic lever and then after doing the same to the mondeo handle inserted the metal lever in its place (it is spring loaded so watch you dont lose anything). Once the pin is back in the the door card/handle surround keeps the pin in and it can't fall out. I did this months ago and have never had a problem with it.

So ive only used the metal handle from the mondy nothing else, and never had to remove the base plate from the door of the van.

8) Very good, had look at removing the pin but could find the solution..If i run into any problems with the handles, i now have a backup and much more tidy..

After a load of chopping from the back on the first one it still did not fit as flush as i would have liked. Also the cable would fit in perfect, but the red cover that goes on top would keep popping out everytime i locked the van! So after a bit of this     :( I decided to go for Rumblebees idea....and ive got to say it works and saves a hell of a lot of time. I did however chop and fit both pins so that i had a top and a bottom. I think because the metal pins go into a sort of plastic sleeve that they should stay put, as there does not seem to be any movement and there in pretty tight. Well you need to put in a bit of work to pull them out. Tomorrow im onto the steering wheel!
