Mk6 transit warranty not worth paper its written on

Well Well thank ford again for there superb waranty took my mk6 minibus up 2 my local dealer would u believe this i couldnt get gears sometimes
and the pedal was near floor most of the time so they changed the clutch &the fly wheel fantastic ,well i thought so till i went 2 pick it up ford warranty would only pay for flywheel and left me a bill for the clutch i was shocked so much for the 100,000 mile warranty which i may add my vehicle is still under warranty well i am waiting for the new transit 2 come out i think i will tell them 2 stuf it due 2 not paying for the clutch

any 1 eslse had similar probs drop a line

well doubt it this is a commonproblem with 2.4td and 2.0 duratorq engines u gotta replace the clutch and flywheel totally brutalgood old for

this is not a ford thing - I've worked quite a few different franchise dealers over the years and none of the manufacturers will accept a worn clutch under warranty - it's a wearable item and therefore chargeable in the same way worn tyres are, they're consumable items which inevitably wear out with use - it's an argument I've had with lots of customers and they all got the same answer - sorry

Having talked to the paint and body shop that painted certain panels on my van they reckon that the van would not be the same if they replace both front door apertures because of the very major amount of dismantling

don't be swearing at me mate I was the service manager I've heard more than enough of it - wear and tear of any item is not covered by any maker end of story - you'll have to get yer wallet out

The clutch is only covered against a manufacturing defect, in the same way as every other part of the vehicle.

Friction surfaces of the clutch and the brakes are not covered directly.

Things wear out, thats a sad fact of life, FMC as a manufacturer have no control over how a vehicle is driven or it's duty cycle, so like every other manufacturer they will not repalce an item because it's worn out.

Had the metal sections of the centre plate failed through a material defect, it would have been a justifiable repair.

Surely the clutch has a lifespan, this to me should be covered, consumable or not. If your brakes failed on the first day you had the van, they cant put that down to wear and tear.

Brake failure on the first day of use is highly unlikely to be caused by the friction material

so should the warranty cover worn tyres as well then? or oil top ups between services? some components are consumed during the course of normal use and the clutch is one of them

Did you pay for the clutch assy. only Or additional labour for fitting the clutch which had to come out anyway

Yes the clutch has an engineered lifespan, but it's not going to be the same as that of the vehicle otherwise the spare part business would suffer

one driver could (and has been known to) make a clutch last over 100k where as another driver with a different drive style might only get 15k

same part, drastic difference in life.........how would you set a warranty policy on that?

Transit and connect get better warranty coverage than the car range and ranger as it is, much to my annoyance really.
2/3rds of the items covered for 3 years against material defects on the commercial lines are removed from years 2 and 3 of the car line warranty and yet Transit and connect work much harder.

In the cold light of day, warranty on Transit is actaully very good.

out of interest, how many miles have you done and how long have you had it, i had a Subaru the clutch whent in the first month, the dealer changed it free of charge £1000 with the flywheel, it was a used Subaru from Carland.

i think if you have only had it a very short time then they should have done the lot for free, if you have had it a while and done sevaral thousand miles then thats were and tear, trouble is im lead to belive its the flywheel fault that kills the clutch...
