Bosh, maximum revs

Can anyone help me, what should be maxximum revs on warm engine, standing idle pressing pedal? Tranzit 95, Bosh.
I've got 4000.
If that it is too little, what should I do?

Idling rpm depends on the engine, but in the region of 850-1000.

Max revs from any Di is, I think 4850?

Mine doesn't rev much past about 4500rpm.

For the Di and TDI/TCI (n/a and turbo);

4,000 is the maximum continuous rpm

4,400 is the maximum intermittent rpm

Idle speed is 850 (+ or - 50) rpm


(For the DOHC petrol
5,950 is the maximum continuous rpm

6,175 is the maximum intermittent rpm )

To make it plain for simple minds like mine, if the engine is warm and I stand in netural gear, pressinf the gas pedal on diesel shpould give me 4400 rpm?

That is correct, but I wouldn't hold it @4,400rpm for any amount of time

You should never rev the engine that much when van is stationery. When engine is not under load it will cause untold damage. If the power and economy of the engine is ok then dont worry about the max rpm, on a diesel you get more economical power lower down in the rev range.

I my opinion, sitting on a motorway with a DI revving at 4000rpm all day will only shorten the life of your engine and make you deaf, not to mention hit you hard in the wallet.

We upgraded our DI to turbo, and since have actually driven slower (cruise 65 max) satisfied in the knowledge that it will do it all day, up or down hill. It also sits within the green ECONOMY band on the rev counter which is between 1200 and 3000 rpm.
